  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I do believe in a literal interpretation. There are many interpretations of Genesis and as far as I am concerned they are all accurate and true from their own perspective. One of the greatest believers in YEC was Bishop Ussher and I am still waiting for anyone to show anything in his book that is not 100% accurate and true.

The burden of proof is on those who claim it is accurate and true.

so you are assuming it to be natural causes, even though it is impossible.

Where did you demonstrate that it was impossible?

Also, look how far we have come by assuming that there are natural causes for natural phenomenon. In 200 years we have gathered more knowledge about the world around us using this assumption than all of the supernaturalists produced in the preceding 10,000 years.

so then question #2 how did the first cell form?

Planets started forming in our solar system 4.5 billion years ago, and the first fossil evidence for life is 3.8 billion years old, so somewhere in between those two bookends.

Fossil Record of the Cyanobacteria

don't tell me an electrocuted mud puddle

Right, because we are constantly seeing deities magically poofing life into being.

so you really think science has the answer to an explosion of absolutely nothing. Thats ok. But I don't think it will help to be honest.

Right, because we are constantly seeing deities magically poofing life into being.

I accept my religion, do you accept yours?

What!?

Poor example. Try again.

One more time the Bible made it clear in the prophesy that Tyre was the island, not the mainland. Read your Bible. The prophesy failed.

well you still call it hawaii, rather.

Tyre outgrew the small island, and lived on the mainland only to hide their values there later on as I quoted in the links in previous posts.

I think the scientific method holds the only promise of understanding how our universe came about. Stories in books have been utterly useless for learning about our universe.

I accept my religion, do you accept yours?

I do not have a religion. Why do you feel it necessary to pull people down in the mud with you? Do you really think that little of your religion?

Most of the people we deal with are in Africa got aids as a STD.

So what?

As I already said the people your refering to here usually do not want to talk about it when they get healed. They like to just keep it to themselves and not make a public issue out of it. They have no reason to prove anything to you. Esp when your just going to call their cure an error in your test.

To be honest, if god is just curing one or two cases here and there, he may as well not bother at all. It would be a pretty pathetic effort on his part and just make him look useless, weak and fickle. Just imagine it, god is sitting there looking at however many million people in the world have Aids. "How many shall I cure today?" he asks himself, scratching his big belly. "Umm, I'll cure, ooh, let's see, how about....2." Yawn. "It's been a big day." Not a great advert for him is it.

There is nothing we can do if you do not want to accept the truth.

What truth? Have you presented some?

No, because science doesn't say that there was an explosion of absolutely nothing. Science does, however, have a tentative explanation on the origins of the universe, subject to correction, elaboration, falsification, and testing.

And what exactly do you mean when you say you don't think it will help? Help with what?

I accept my religion, do you accept yours?

I don't have one.

Not impossible just unknown as to its cause. And, yes, science always assumes natrual causes. It works completely within the set of natural laws. It is not geared to deal with the supernatural which by definition is outside of natural law.

then I can say the same thing for miracles. And we both understand the Big Bang to be a miracle as well.

That's a great point. Just think if where we would be if the scientific method had come along, say, 1,000 years earlier.

so you don't believe the Big Bang exploded? Then what did it do? Expand?

Again from what? It expanded from absolutely nothing. If there was in fact something, where or what caused that to exist?
