  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

... snipped inane nonsense.

So why did German scientists create this drug to deform our children?

Need you ask?

What did we do to Germany prior to 1957?

Just an idea I'm pushing around in my head.

Push that silliness out of your head right now.

Thalidomide is widely used today in the treatment of some forms of cancer.

No kidding?

You're only about six months behind the times, if you think I haven't been told that before.

What's your point?

Witchcraft like Harlotry can be gotten for a price on the internet.

I don't necessarily buy that "pharmakeia" argument, but it's certainly a powerful one for showing a witchcraft-to-drugs connection.

A wrongly used drug can be as dangerous as a wrongly used gun.

Again, you point is what?

This stuff was marketed as a prenatal wonder drug; so I fail to see your point.

I hope I'm wrong -- that's a doosey of an assumption.

If you go with this new theory (which as best I can tell is that German scientists made Thalidomide knowing it would cause birth defects as payback for WWII) then you're admitting that the scientists working on Thalidomide were successful and that science worked as it was supposed to. Which is contrary to your usual use of Thalidomide trying to show science/scientists as incompetent or incorrect.

Someone got it wrong, it happens, does that mean all of the drugs in use today should be thrown out?
We are all human and we make mistakes.

Look at the mistakes made by some people in their choice of religions, over 2/3rds of the worlds population are worshiping the wrong God, why? because people make mistakes.

That is correct.

So what does that say for those who argued that I was wrong back then?

Someone got it wrong,

Who got what wrong?

As I said, I've been told that the assumption was that Thalidomide would not pass through the placental wall ... only it did.

So what do you want done about it? I know it was absolutely horrendous for the people who suffered but from a purely commercial point of view the companies involved were not too happy about it either because it must have cost them a fortune if not their businesses.

Nothing now.

God put a stop to it (via Frances Kelsey) before our scientists got it imported into this [Christian] nation.

I agree.

I would have been upset as well.

I will say it because you want me to, America is not a Christian nation, if you say it is then, not for much longer.

I will also add that if America truly is a Christian nation then Christians in America should be ashamed, why?
because all America has got is money and most of that belongs to less than 5% of the population.
We top the polls in every bad poll going and come bottom in most of the good ones.

So you are now letting your prejudice against science, which is borne of the threat you feel it represents to your faith, drive you into creating conspiracy theories about it.

Nothing like being in control of your own thinking...

Thank you for that time-out to rant & ridicule about America today.

Can we get back to 1957 now?

He knows he hasn't got an argument, hence the need to cast aspersions on science generally.

An AronRa quote comes to mind: "Science doesn't know the answer to everything. Religion doesn't know the answer to anything."

So when I say something I know is true it is called a rant, why not just say you do not agree with me? it is quite acceptable to disagree.
Because I don't particularly care for you ... scientists ... or whatever you are ... using my posts to make some off-target rant about something we hold sacred.
