• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am a collection of chemicals that interact with one another and that interact with other beings.

Thanks, just to drill a bit deeper; accepting that, which I do, would you affirm that humanity including every individual human, possesses the characteristic of self-transcendence?

No. We are self-aware and so are other organisms. We have evolved cognitive abilities that are either unique to us or more advanced/obvious in humans than other species. I tend to think the latter since other primates posses quite sophisticated social structures.

Not necessarily. It could be space aliens.

And you are limiting God here. If God exists, there nothing to prevent God from planting wishes into people.

eudaimonia,

Mark

All things about god are possible for atheists. Because they do not need to understand any god. And they are not limiting anything.

For the Christian God, something He simply won't do. I think any other god would have a similar property.

No. You do not know how does the brain work. It works differently with God or without God. That is how God talk to His people.

Care to qualify that with research? Because researchers would beg to differ.

No, for the juvenissun God, something He simply won't do. I doubt that all Christians would agree with you.

A quick question, if I may. How are you defining/describing the "characteristic of self-transcendence" here?

The quality of 'going out from omeself'.

The only reason I haven't asked another questionis that I am not really sure what to ask. You're views seem similar to the ones I once held and also seem similar to my wife's.

You can do an experiment: Put two identical twin (just born or even in the womb) in exactly the same environment for one day. Then test what have they learned from the environment.

I bet they learned different thing.

Can you explain why?

All Christians, all religious people, will agree: Something their God (gods) simply won't do.

That is an intrinsic nature (or definition) of any god.

Many do claim that God talks to them. Can you tell us how a person who believes in God knows in fact it is God who is talking and not their mind playing tricks on them?

How exactly do you go about testing what a new born has learned?
