The right's view of teachers is very contridictory. On one hand they are greed and lazy union thugs who are indocrinating our children, but on the other hand we need to arm them because, in their selfless compassion, they will protect our children.

Well, they are volunteers, so if they didn't want the responsibility they didn't have to take it. We don't need them to be selfless anyway. It is in their own interest to eliminate an attacker to save their own life. However, I don't agree with singling out teachers. Any adult should be able to carry a firearm anywhere they choose.

Even overpaid union slugs have a right to self defense, don't they?

Arkansas school district arming teachers

System becomes first in state to take advantage of law allowing such action

Good. Had even one of the teachers or the principal or vice principal been armed at Sandy Hook, a LOT of children's (and adults) lives would have been saved.

Would have been saved … at Sandy Hook. But a lot more would be lost, over time, in the tens of thousands of schools where no such event ever took place.

If they are going to arm someone at a school it would be better if the person in question was a trained full time security guard I would think. Preferable someone with past police or military experience. Teachers should be there to teach.
It would be better if they allowed any adult to carry a gun anywhere they want.

No they aren't. They are employees.

It's been a while since I was in high school, but I don't recall any of my teachers being attacked or eliminating anyone. They mostly just taught us stuff.

I guess you didn't read the article. The teachers that were armed were those that volunteered. Congratulations, you avoided a school shooting. Are you denying that they happen?

I'm not advocating arming school teachers, I'm arguing that everyone should be allowed to be armed everywhere.
I know that.

The reason these teachers are being armed is that people are afraid of school shootings.

They overlook the possibility that a teacher could be the shooter. Possibly even one that was given permission to bring firearms into the school.

Since there are multiple armed teachers there would be other teachers there to stop the attack. How is that worse than someone walking into a "gun free" school and shooting everyone?

I'd be interested to know how often violent crimes are the result of heat of the moment passion and how often they are preplanned. My experience as a criminal defense attorney suggests to me that the former is much more common. If that's true, then keeping schools gun free should ultimately save more lives than it costs.
