• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Need i say more? They're holding my email hostage. After i signed in, a page blocked my email, and on this page they are attempting to "force" me to agree to something I am not in agreement with in order to access my email.

Anybody know if i have options? What does one do, and/or whom can i contact if i wish to file a formal complaint against Yahoo!?

Thank you, to anyone who responds.

Perhaps the first thing I would do is try to access the page in a different browser, or better, a different machine, to insure no hijacker was at work. Or at least do deep scans of your machine.

You can POP or IMAP a yahoo account, but if you're in the US you first will have to go to account options and change your home location so somewhere else - the UK, for instance.

Seriously, I recommend switching to something else ASAP. I had Yahoo since the early 90s and the last few years were downright awful. I'm so much happier with Gmail. Not as slick as far as features, but almost no issues. I was able to import my email from Yahoo to Gmail.

Thanks for the suggestion. How'd yu do that? And thanks for understanding.

I just peeked in my Yahoo that I hadn't viewed in months. It's absolutely riddled with spam! I Googled "deactivate" (because I can't figure out how to do it myself!) and before I could finish typing...it filled in "deactivate Yahoo account".
^_^

I don't remember, it's been a while. I believe it's within the Gmail settings. Google it! That's what I'm doing right now.

I tried using my mail program to access my yahoo account because I want to be able to download all my messages from there to keep locally and it won't let me even after changing my location. I know they have been charging for pop mail for a few years now but thought maybe this was a walk around.

Well that's easy, it's their service and if you don't agree to their terms and condition, go somewhere else!

Sorry but it's that simple.

EDIT: on a further note, you could probably bypass any message by using an email client to download/sync your Yahoo account.

I agree with EphesiaNZ. Thunderbird is a great free program. I use it to download many of my email accounts, in one go. I can also send emails "within" Thunderbird using my actual email accounts.

have they defeated us then?

The underlying problem is not clear to me. There's a lot to be concerned about from any of the major email providers, and in my view, the government is going to do exactly what it wants to do regardless of what they tell us.

Even if you use remote access, your continued use of the server might constitute acceptance of the terms. A smaller house might be better. My.Opera.com operates a very nice Web/remote mail service for free, and Opera has an excellent privacy track record.

Yahoo Mail Plus is the premium account that allows remote access.

I've used Yahoo since the late 90s. It's had its share of problems, but I think some have been addressed of late (there's a new GUI for example). I also have a Gmail account. It's no problem for me to maintain two accounts since I'm a zero-inbox user. Oh yeah, and I still pay $20/year for Yahoo's premium mail service. I don't know if I'm getting my money's worth, but at least I have more filters and don't have to put up with all the graphical ads in Yahoo.

I think Yahoo keeps your mailbox for 3 months after which it goes to that great recycle bin in the sky, otherwise known as /dev/null
That's right. I started that account back in '96. Almost 17 years...wow. That's a lot of history to purge!
