Is the last of us[video game], too violent for a christian?
The reason I ask is because I hardly watch violent movies,
I use to play mw2, mw3, and bf3.

Not because of the game but because of the competition
so, my question is the game the last of us to violent for
a christian to play as a pass time?

I use to be a hardcore gamer but since these last few years
I toned the down the use of playing violent games.

I use to play resident evil, silent hill, dead space, and other games
of that genre but just for the thrill of surviving and seeing how fast
or how long I can last of how much ammunition I can save before
started a new game+.

So, what does my fellow CF'ers think?

After playing games like Dead Island, Resident Evil and so on... no it doesn't seem that bad. But then again its sad when we try to justify a violence in one game by saying "Well <insert game> is worse!" because it makes it sound like we are looking for an excuse to play the "less" violent game. I know this from my own bad thinking at times.

I agree, but I mean I like survival games, they have realism in them,
most of the ps3/xbox games, I play are all survival due to an outbreak, apocolypse or something.

But after I turn off my ps3/xbox, I don't think or have any violent thoughts, all I say to myself glad this is just a video game and not reality.

I agree, but what I meant is when your caught up in a game or in something forget about God, in sense is what I mean.

Even though, we know he's everywhere sometimes we get caught up in our daily lives, with family, friends, and other hobbies, sometimes we forget, that he is everywhere.

But, I also do see your point.

Oh so do I. Its actually I game I wanted to play until I accidently seen spoilers online for.

Well thats a good thing then. Being a gamer my whole life I admittedly got caught up in games and movies (mostly games). I didn't realize until I gamed much less just how much it affected me. I didn't have urges to go kill anyone obviously, but I had pretty wild day dreams sometimes of fighting off thousands of bad guys. lol

How are you not spending time with God when you're playing a game? Isn't God everywhere, all-knowing, ever-present? Isn't he in you? If so, I don't even see the distinction. I'm spending time with God every moment of my existence, you can't run from God. He's literally everywhere!
Aside from how a game can effect you its only really a sin when it becomes an idol. As in it effects your habits you do as a christian. In my case I would play and play so late then I'd go right to bed and not pray. I would skip reading my bible or doing bible studies. I'd even skip church all but one day a year because I'd choose to play games and stay up late.

So for me it had become an idol sadly. Being different now I literally feel better, like theres a weight lifted off my shoulder. I still have games like Borderlands 2, which isn't exactly for kids or teens really (lol). But I am still careful about what I play and more so how much time I spend doing do. Then again I am disabled so I don't have to do all day. So I try to spend it on here or doing something else.

Mostly I am playing Counter Strike: GO while I wait for my wifes visa to be approved. It helps me not to think about it all.

God may be everywhere but it doesn't mean we are spending time with him. My gentials are wtih me all the time but I don't spend much time with them actually caring or using them. Probably a terrible analogy. LOL

Lols @ wifes visa, don't get me started on wife's, I just bought my fiance a new car, lmao, so when I told her ay, babes, I'ma get the last of us and check it out, she was like don't be spending money, I was like your complaining about spending money when I just gotchu in 18,000 car
your complaining about $45.00[with trade-ins], lol.

But, yes, just because he is everywhere we don't spend time with him,
as we should, I do agree there.

But, I also try and take time to make time for God and everything else.

Is the Bible too violent for a Christian?

Is Foxes' Book of Martyrs too violent for a Christian?

Is Jesus being scourged and nailed to a cross to die too violent for a Christian?

The stuff mentioned above is christian history, so we have to accept it. Whats in a video game is not part of christian history, theres no reason for us to see it/play it. We choose to with our free will because we try reasoning in our head why its ok to do something evil. If we go by that sort of logic then I guess I could sleep with my sister (if I had one) because its in the bible after all.

I find the state of christianity very sad. Americans think their christianity is so amazing.. as they worship sports, drink, party...etc. Where as most foreigners think american christianity is a joke. Including my wife. If I wasn't disabled I would indeed move away from here, which is something so many loving christians tell me. (eye roll). But when they say this I know they feel convicted in their heart so I try not to take it personally.

You used your free will to build a gamer rig fast enough to play first-person shooters like Crysis, while decrying the modern state of Christianity on this thread?

This is a good question, I have been a gamer since I was young, began with the sega mega drive II, will be getting a PS4. Personally, I think that blaming violence in society on violence in video games is a cop out and we should be focusing more on the degradation of family values and keeping families together.

All you need to do is look at the news and see how much is out there that influences us. Being aware of it helps.

I think its a bit like the whole eating meat when a vegetarian is around thing. Their perception of the Bible and its law is that they shouldn't eat meat (or certain meats? Can't remember exactly), The bible says the new testament changed that, yet urged those who were happy to eat meat to not make the others feel uncomfortable by pressuring them.

Also one might say that playing it too often can take up too much of our time, become an idol. This is certainly true and I limit my gaming, by choice and because of everything else in life. But the same can be said of virtually every other aspect of life, work, playing golf or any sport, family, friends... there are many things.

Personally, I find gaming to be stories that I can get involved in, become part of. Like reading a book only more immersive, (I do still love reading also by the way). And I am selective about which games I spend my time on. :)

It's a great way to spend time with my brothers in law too who also like gaming.

I think in the end, individuals will know how games affect them, how they make them feel and how that affects their walk with God. Playing a violent video game doesn't make we want to go run someone over with my car... that is also why they have ratings.

As far as The Last of Us itself goes, i'm playing that at the moment and thoroughly enjoying it for it's graphics, it's gameplay and most of all, it's storyline which is just as good as any fictional book.

:)

Actually I built it not for Crysis but just in general for any game. Also at the time I was heavily into gaming before I changed my views on it. Now I have a very expensive paper weight.

That's said, i'll take it off your hands and part it out for profit if you want, my desktop can run the world anyway jaja.
