Wanted to share this dream I had just this morning. Thoughts?

My wife and I were invited to a church by some acquaintances. I was wearing a nice black suit and tie. We got to the church and sat down. The environment was extremely casual, it barely resembled what you would picture a church service to look like. I couldn't tell who the ministers were, there were four guys standing up front that were in conversations with others. It's the kind of milling about you see when a service is about to start. So things settled down a little while the worship team sang, but some people still continued talking and such. As I looked around I remember being amazed at how apathetic people were during worship. People were even trying to talk to me and I was politely trying to show them this wasn't the time by keeping my focus on the worship; it was an extremely strange experience. I really didn't know what to do with it.

The service finally came to order as one of the gentlemen in the front began to speak. As he was beginning his message a dining service started. The person next to me got a plate of food with a good size steak on it, along with some mashed potatoes and vegetables. I remember the smell of food wafting through the air as the pastor continued on went on and thinking how out of place it seemed. The person next to me focused on his food. Behind me a cell phone rang and the person answered it and had a conversation. The pastor was telling a story, it wasn't anything out of the bible, it was more something you'd read out of "Chicken Soup for the Soul". It was very light and absolutely void of anything meaningful; although I was desperate to hear God in all of it. It was like I was starving.

Anger started to build within me. I couldn't believe that people were able to endure any of this; it was the worst service I had ever been in. I noticed behind the podium that there were people preparing more food to go out to the audience. There were racks filled with huge pieces of meat and bread all cooked to perfection. The food smelled amazing, but I still could not believe this was a church service. As the pastor was finishing his message, I caught the eyes of my wife who was sitting in the front with her back to the pastor, facing me.

For some reason my shoes were off. I went to grab the, and noticed they looked like they had been chewed up by a dog (we have a dog in real life). The right shoe had big rectangular piece out of the right side and the left inside of the left shoe (where the instep is) looked like swiss cheese. I smiled at my wife and mouthed to her "I'm going to need new shoes".

So I got some old black shoes from underneath the seat and put them on. The pastor then called for everyone with a black suit to please stand. Several people stood. Many were not wearing black suits; there were people standing who had on jeans and a black shirt, some wore only a black jacket, but there were only three of us wearing black suits. Then the pastor said "Will those who are not holding on to anything please remain standing". I remained standing, everyone else sat down. There wasn't anything done after that, and the service was concluded so I walked up to the front in hopes of talking to the pastor. Everyone was busy in conversations, so I looked at the people still in the audience. All of the sudden I felt the urge to speak. I began by saying "Excuse me, but what is going on in here?" I began to cry. Through tears I told them "Jesus loves you!" I told them again, "Jesus loves you! Do you even know that? What is the matter with you people?

When is the last time you loved Jesus just for who He is? When is the last time you called out to Him? When is the last time you thanked Him? Not for the car you drive, or the house you live in or the clothes wear or the job you have, but just thanked Him for what He has done for you on the cross? When is the last time you got before Him and just said "Jesus I love you"...

As I said these things I wept, and some in the congregation hung their heads and wept too. I told them to open up their bibles and read it; to stop being so apathetic.

END

Well...

It's got me curious. My wife got into a discussion with my friend's wife last night. They would qualify as new believers. My friend's wife went on a rant about Joel Osteen. My wife cautioned her that while it was okay to discern and question, she needed to be careful about not slamming ministers; even if you disagree with them.

Anyways, I can't tell whether this dream was a subconscious response on my part, or whether God was showing me what this situation looks like through His eyes.

When my wife told me about the discussion she had with our mutual friend, she lamented that our friend didn't seem to take her counsel (and this is a pattern; she'll ignore what we say and then figures it out later when God deals with her on it). I told my wife if it comes up again, that she needs to implore our friend to pray for Mr. Osteen if she feels he's walking in error. I personally don't care for Joel, but I take my concerns about him to God lest I fall into the trap of pride.

It was an interesting dream.... It's some of the details that make me think it wasn't just "me". I am not 100% sure though (which is why I posted it).

Wow! It seems clear you are being shown that people are being fed... But NOT by the word of God. They are being fed distractions (from satan) that keep them from the truth of Jesus!

This is some great insight Glorify....

Another interesting thing is that while I was driving to work this morning God spoke very clearly to me:

"Stay true to Me, Stephen".

Hey bro,
Some people say that many dreams are not from God or are just subconscious things, but what I've learned is that most our dreams actually are from Abba (unless we have opened some door to the occult somehow to allow demonic attacks). When we belong to Jesus the reigning spirit in our lives is God's and He is so much stronger in us than the enemy or even our subconscious. Sometimes in dreams our soul does try to interfere and explain things away or interject thoughts.. like when you felt it was foolish for the food to be served in church, that was your soul trying to make carnal sense of things... Anyway, here's what I got for ya, please pray on it for confirmation...

The church can symbolize your own spiritual life, and/or it can symbolize the body of Christ. I think this may be two fold, at least at the beginning… I’ll try to lay it out for you and hope it blesses you:
A suit & tie speaks of formality & being ‘serious’ about something.
The number four can symbolize a form of leadership as well as the taking of new ground (moving forward or growth in God). The man beside you eating the steak and veggies symbolizes yourself – You are receiving spiritual meat & healthy sustenance from spiritual edification which others feel is unimportant. They are not paying attention & the things of the world are drawing them away. Your wife appears to symbolize the condition of the church body..paying no attention (wives/women often symbolize the church), the word ‘apostasy’ comes to mind. The Lord wants to feed His people with the meat of the Word but not many are receiving. Shoes & socks speak of comfort, peace & preparation (the preparation of the gospel of peace)..Putting on the shoes indicates Abba preparing you for a call.. He is going to make thing comfortable for you "like an old pair of shoes".
What I’m gathering is that there may be a part of you which may initially feel what God is metting out is not very edifying (lacking meat), but you will the see what is really taking place - The Lord will make you aware of it and you will be fed well even though initially it seemed like not much. You will let go of all things & all deterrents keeping you from a close walk with Jesus (not holding onto anything), you will be moved into a more serious role and you will “stand up” for God (3 people standing in suits / 3=God). The pastor symbolizes the Lord. Your black suit also symbolizes boldness in God. The others wearing the black shirts & jackets are clothed in darkness (blind).. but you will be used to reach these people under the anointing and direction of God Himself.

Awesome! I wonder what this will look like in the natural? Dig in bro

MP -- wow. Really good stuff there! Something very interesting is that this is the only dream I've ever woke up from and been directed to take careful note of everything. I had this dream very early this morning and so I got up and recorded it into my phone.

When I asked God about the shoes, I was told "preparation". The rest just rings true.. Good stuff thanks!

PS... more on the old pair of shoes. They also indicate you slipping into a 'comfortable position' -- A position which will feel natural to walk in.. it doesn't appear to be a sudden change but more of a "coming into" type thing. Hope that helps

PSS ... just got a bit more.. the #1 speaks of unity... so when the other 2 guys sit down they symbolize the parts of you putting aside anything you were holding onto. What's left is you in unity with God and single minded.

Woohoo, God is good bro

the meat refers to sin, which everyone in the service knows about, but which few in the audience (including yourself) are actually prepared to hear it spoken on, then, when you go to speak, you realize you are not that aware of what sin is yourself and you direct people to the bible (wise)

this is the problem when people do not encourage seeing sin as God sees it, on the cross 2 Cor 5:21

Ehhhhhhhhh......

Not sure this is right Gottservant. The part about not being prepared to hear about sin and not knowing what sin is has no bearing in reality for me.

My wife and I were invited to a church by some acquaintances. I was wearing a nice black suit and tie. (indicates serious and formal position. These kinds of suits are usually worn by officiators or bridegrooms)

We got to the church and sat down. The environment was extremely casual (reveals and confirms the "contrast" with your own official/ formal approach...suit), it barely resembled what you would picture a church service to look like. (things are really wrong/off here and you see it in your spirit revealed by the Spirit, and later we will see that your wife is rejecting it too by sitting with her back to the pastor/pastors) I couldn't tell who the ministers were, there were four (#4=solid presence of that which is worldly/non-spiritual/earthly as in the four winds and four directions)guys standing up front that were in conversations with others.(rude disregard for leadership and God ...who is a god of order and this scripture points directly at this in 1 Corinth 14:33 "For God is not a God of disorder but of peace--as in all the congregations of the Lord's people.") It's the kind of milling about you see when a service is about to start. So things settled down a little while the worship team sang, but some people still continued talking and such. As I looked around I remember being amazed at how apathetic (key word here!)people were during worship. People were even trying to talk to me and I was politely trying to show them this wasn't the time by keeping my focus on the worship;(I notice that you tried politeness and the example wasn't accepted or even perceived by them...then toward the end when your heart was full of what God sees, your passion/tears overflowed. I felt those tears as I read this. This is also how the Lord approaches us....first with tenderness and then with more stern progressive ways if He is not being heard/received)

The service finally came to order as one of the gentlemen in the front began to speak. As he was beginning his message a dining service started. The person next to me got a plate of food with a good size steak on it, along with some mashed potatoes and vegetables. (appears to be a balanced meal of rich earthly foods.) I remember the smell of food wafting through the air as the pastor continued on went on and thinking how out of place it seemed.(earthly food that feeds and temps the flesh not the spirit) The person next to me focused on his food. Behind me a cell phone rang and the person answered it and had a conversation. The pastor was telling a story, it wasn't anything out of the bible (hence the men being earthly #4 and guiding/teaching in the flesh), it was more something you'd read out of "Chicken Soup for the Soul". It was very light and absolutely void of anything meaningful (another key sentence); although I was desperate to hear God in all of it. It was like I was starving. (You/others/or the corporate church are spiritually starving in reality)
Anger started to build within me. (the righteous anger of God) I couldn't believe that people were able to endure any of this; it was the worst service I had ever been in. I noticed behind the podium that there were people preparing more food to go out to the audience.(This makes sense and fits perfectly...the worldly fleshly prepared word is the food they are serving in the church) There were racks filled with huge pieces of meat and bread all cooked to perfection (again this is temptation and appealing to the flesh to satisfy the body and not the spirit). The food smelled amazing, but I still could not believe this was a church service. As the pastor was finishing his message, I caught the eyes of my wife who was sitting in the front with her back to the pastor, facing me. (classic symbol of rejecting what their back is to. This action is found in many tribes when someone is being shunned or rejected)
For some reason my shoes were off (symbolic here of trying to "connect" ..feet directly on the ground seeking any holiness that "might" be present). I went to grab the, and noticed they looked like they had been chewed up by a dog (we have a dog in real life). (dogs in the Word are trouble, low life, and self serving. Could you have been enduring some abuse in your walk?) The right shoe had big rectangular piece out of the right side and the left inside of the left shoe (where the instep is) looked like swiss cheese. (If I understand this description properly, the main chunks removed are from the same "angle"?) I smiled at my wife and mouthed to her "I'm going to need new shoes". (yes, you are...and here comes the old...your smile speaks to your willingness to not balk or complain about the coming changes/needs)

So I got some old black shoes from underneath the seat and put them on. (they were under the seat=the Lord prepared and placed what you need, just where and when you will need it. They are old and that points to the past.. this could point to Gods age old wisdoms and insights, or it can point to something more personal...perhaps a position or place or church of your past that was working. This will require prayer) The pastor then called for everyone with a black suit to please stand.(those who are dedicated/prepared/serious about their life in Christ) Several people stood. Many were not wearing black suits; there were people standing who had on jeans and a black shirt, some wore only a black jacket, but there were only three of us wearing black suits.(some were standing in positions that do not have the authority to stand in, and/or not really prepared properly. Not wearing the right thing and yet standing can also point to not being aware of their own lack or self deceit which is consistent with the dream topics) Then the pastor said "Will those who are not holding on to anything please remain standing"(those remaining are those who have God at their center and not holding anything of themselves in front of it/Him...not holding onto this world....not living in the flesh but by the Spirit. This is the center core of the whol message of the dream that is seen by the repeated symbols in it...living to the flesh and not to God in the Spirit). I remained standing, everyone else sat down. There wasn't anything done after that, and the service was concluded so I walked up to the front in hopes of talking to the pastor. (since it is not likely that you are the only one who is picking up on this, I am not sure why you were the only one left standing. This would require prayer) Everyone was busy in conversations, so I looked at the people still in the audience. All of the sudden I felt the urge to speak. I began by saying "Excuse me, but what is going on in here?" I began to cry. Through tears I told them "Jesus loves you!" I told them again, "Jesus loves you! Do you even know that? What is the matter with you people? (They are missing the greatest and most required revelation from our Lord Jesus....His love. One cannot be passionate towards the Lord and the things of the Lord...until they receive this revelation from Him)When is the last time you loved Jesus just for who He is? When is the last time you called out to Him? When is the last time you thanked Him? Not for the car you drive, or the house you live in or the clothes wear or the job you have, but just thanked Him for what He has done for you on the cross? When is the last time you got before Him and just said "Jesus I love you"...(the Spirit crying out for them to open their eyes to see and "feel" Him.)
As I said these things I wept, and some in the congregation hung their heads and wept too.(Thank you Lord for your touch and your words. He is calling to them, and some are responding. Take heart.) I told them to open up their bibles and read it; to stop being so apathetic.(Only those who have received the vital revelation of His deep love from Him will hear this final words of the dream and respond to it. Those who have not will reject even the basic command from the Lord="read my Word". Pray and share His "love" and this will open more doors to their hearts more than anything else you/we can do)

Hi Eyesee

What impressed me when I read your dream was the importance of black clothing. First your own black suit and then again later the pastor bringing up black. I've seen other believers dream of wearing black, or black being emphasized, who tend to see things in black and white. Gray areas simply are not good enough for them to settle on, they desire a clear cut view; and I see them as the first to seek after truth and sayings that may normally be hard to understand for another, or easily escape them, so it also isn't surprising that this dream would remain so sharp and vivid to you :)

Perhaps a small matter, though something that came to mind referring to the dog who chewed your shoes and your wife facing you.... could it be that you are more likely to overlook a fault in one you love over say other children of God? Or perhaps a "Pet doctrine"? That your wife is facing you and you smiled at her may point to something currently in your life that is reinforcing this emotion or hold.

The different kinds of foods Peter was instructed to eat stood for accepting those of different beliefs. The gentiles at that time. I don't know if this is the symbol here, just something more to consider.

God bless
Riv :)

Good point about the color black.

Regarding the food served...I was thinking of Daniel and his denial of the rich foods of the weathly/earthly and his request to be fed only fruits and vegetables, while in training. Eating or "taking in" only what is good for your spirit and body.

Humblewatchman,

FIRST: Thank you so very much for taking the time to read through my dream, you write some very significant things that witness very strongly with my spirit. I appreciate the time and effort you put into your response.
On occasion (about 3 times over a 15 year period) I have had dreams that are similar to this; but it has always been in a public place (e.g. a grocery store, restaurant, and or diner) as I write this I just noticed for the first time that these are all place that you go to eat…. HMMM.

These dreams all have a similar thread. I’m just minding my own business, the Holy Spirit comes upon me and I start to preach and prophesy. This dream is different in that it’s the first one I have ever had that takes place in a church service. As I stated earlier, much of what you wrote bears strong witness in my spirit; although some things I feel that God wants to expound upon with me, I’ll have to seek him for those things.

As I mentioned this is the only dream I have had where I felt like the LORD wanted me to take careful note of everything – ESPECIALLY the shoes. To answer your question "If I understand this description properly, the main chunks removed are from the same "angle"? Yes, that is correct. When I asked God about this, the word “eating away at your peace” came to mind. I think I have been worried about how people in the body view me. For some reason, I’ve been feeling very insecure about it lately and I don’t know why. Your insights about the nature of the old shoes that I put back on I felt were very insightful.

When I was very young in the LORD, people would walk up to me after service (these are people I did not know) and say “There’s a call on your life”. I never knew what this meant, and I still ask God about it today. Lately I have been asking God “Did I miss my calling?”. Vocationally, I am a pilot and God has definitely used me wherever I have worked but I feel there is something more I am to be doing… I am praying about it and waiting on God. I have a heart for the lost and some gifts for teaching but I don’t automatically assume that it means I’m supposed to be in the ministry full time. That is something I take deadly-serious and God would have to do something close to showing up personally and telling me to do it before I would dare to venture out in that direction. I fear doing something out of presumption, ESPECIALLY something like full time ministry. Anyways, your comment about the “old shoes” really struck home with me concerning all of this; and as you said it will require (much) prayer.

As to the rest of your comments, I think they are right on the money, but more than that, there is a definite authority behind what you wrote. There is a LOT of wisdom there.

Thank you again for taking the time to respond so thoughtfully to my dream, may God bless you.

- Stephen

Yes, this spot on.

Possibly... I'll pray about this.

Kind of points to the same gifting/concern doesn't it?

I asked this question because I felt that the source of negativity was coming repeatedly from the same source (angle)

Yes, much prayer. I wonder though, if you have considered long enough, that you were called up and singled out within this dream. You were the only one properly dressed (prepared) and the only on left standing. Hmmmm.

I enjoyed your dream.

What comes across to me is this and have seen it in the past.

The Lord is about to shake the heavens and the earth. People, even brothers and sisters in Christ have lost the reverence the God wants from his believers. A lot of people in Churches are there to be there and not to have a relationship with the Lord. These are the ones that just linger about and talk as though on its Friday Night Football game. They might even pay more attention to that than to God.

Now the Food. A lot of churches are telling stories, creating an atmosphere of joy and abundance and saying things that people want to hear so that they will return. This is the food the pastor is giving out. It isn't nourshing or edifying to the soul but just those things tickling ears want to hear.

The anger that you felt was not your own but that which lives within you. The Holy spirit. When Christ turned the tables on the money changers it was because they have profaned his holy place.

As your wife was facing you indicates to me that sometimes the best fellowship one can find is with the one you love the most. She indicates a bride. Find your fellowship first with the Lord as he will be the one who will feed you.

Your shoes as well as those that stand up with you eludes to me as a reprentation of being prepared or lack of being prepared. Most people think that are ready and are wearing the right clothes, have the right doctrine, have the only understanding but yet are left with a complete misunderstanding of what is required of man for a deep relationship with the Lord.

So you as to change your shoes represents the Lord may be calling you out to step out of the old shoes they you are in "Maybe your current Church" and into something that that is more worn. Something that may be more difficult but grounded in the true. Know that this decision may cause distress and times of trouble as you see it but it is a time of purifying the saints of God for his calling. As you wife faces you so will it be as you make this decision together.

That is what rings true to me. Your dreams are a reminder of mine. Take courage in the Lord and ask him for his understanding and not others understanding of it. For when one ask the interpretation or understanding of others, one will always get the interpretation and understanding of others and which may not be of the Lord. Ask him, he will not denie you

Your Brother

What comes across to me is this and have seen it in the past.

The Lord is about to shake the heavens and the earth. People, even brothers and sisters in Christ have lost the reverence the God wants from his believers. A lot of people in Churches are there to be there and not to have a relationship with the Lord. These are the ones that just linger about and talk as though on its Friday Night Football game. They might even pay more attention to that than to God.

Agree 100%

Now the Food. A lot of churches are telling stories, creating an atmosphere of joy and abundance and saying things that people want to hear so that they will return. This is the food the pastor is giving out. It isn't nourshing or edifying to the soul but just those things tickling ears want to hear.

Okay, I'm with you. I can see it going both ways: Meat being "meat" as in not milk, and bread being Jesus. I'm not entirely sure of the symbolism here, because of the "sermon-lite" the pastor was giving. I'm still talking to God about this...

The anger that you felt was not your own but that which lives within you. The Holy spirit. When Christ turned the tables on the money changers it was because they have profaned his holy place.

Yes.

As your wife was facing you indicates to me that sometimes the best fellowship one can find is with the one you love the most. She indicates a bride. Find your fellowship first with the Lord as he will be the one who will feed you.

This is really beautiful and very true.

This is good.

I'll be praying about this.

Very true, my brother. God does show me things, sometimes in whole, sometimes in part. There are those here that I know and trust; God does give me great discernment about things ... and people for that matter. Honestly, I love seeing the body work.

Proverbs 15:22 said:
Where there is no counsel, purposes are disappointed; But in the multitude of counsellors they are established.

Your Brother

And yours. The LORD bless you my friend :)
