  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why are SDA so paraoid of Jesuits?

Brightcandle/Truthwave/Gladiator has already stated he takes Luther selectively. So Victor is not telling him what he believes.

However, what Victor may be driving at is why doesn't Brightcandle/Truthwave/Gladiator just spell out his view from the Bible and leave Luther out of it?

I will clarify what the last of the points in my post is about. It is about telling me and the other Catholics here what we believe. It is so common that folk don't even notice that it is what they are doing.

In the unlikely event you were taught that whoever taught it to you was completely wrong about a basic aspect of Catholic ecclesiology.

Under very stringent conditions certain very specific Papal announcements are deemed to be infallible. But the Pope himself is not regarded as sinless by a long chalk, and never has been.
Not technicaly, but that's definitely not the attitude worn in public along with all the gaudy costuming.
Ipso Facto is the rule, and you have to learn quick to read between the lines if you want to keep up.

The facts are there are times when adherents to a group do not accurately represent the beliefs of that group.

With conservative Adventists quoting Ellen White is a means to help them accept a baseline for what the church teaches.

And a number of times in these discussions I have pointed out something that Ellen White said that they were not aware of and they fall into line, though before they were arguing something else.

I don't expect that every Adventists agrees with Ellen White or official belief statements. But these remain the mainstream beliefs of the church, despite some who do not accept them.

I am sure the Catholic church too has some official dogma that can be established if need be.

Emmm... Whats wrong with Liberation Theology...? :)

it was made up by Socialists
it twists the Christian narative into a Marxist mindset
and it ignores true liberation in favor of perpetual revolution

true liberation is freedom in Christ

I was raised RC. I feel completely free to tell you what they believe.
And what they believe isn't always what's in the Catechism.

you can tell us what you used to believe

with over 1 billion Catholics, I am not sure you have the right to speak for all of us.
you just know what your teachers and your priest and your parents taught

I know Protestants who were raised with the idea that interracial dating was a sin
I do not go around screaming "hey wanna hear what Protestants really teach!?!"

I understand that the bad habits of family or even an entire town does not reflect on the Baptist denomination as a whole

I am not really sure, but USA right wingers sure get their nickers in a knot about it ;)

also people who lived under the oppresive yoke of Communism do not seem to be big fans of it
Pope John Paul II, for example, understood the dangers of Liberation Theology

That's a fairly accurate assessment.

I generally find ex-whatever's are a very bad source about whatever's believe.

.....what?
He was comparing a minor incident in terms of both quality & quantity to a major one.
Professing Christians killing professing Christians is the same as professing Christians killing alleged witches?
C'mon.
