  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've been on this earth for enough decades to realize a trend. Going to a restaurant, such as a diner type which have lots of things on their multi-page menus, you may find Bacon on the breakfast menu and for other times perhaps a BLT or rumaki. But today when visiting many chain restaurants or viewing menu choices online you will notice that just about everything on the menu has some form of pork included or shellfish.

I've often wondered about this, how people can observe the pig in it's natural habitat, wallowing in it's own filth and eating putrid garbage or worse and want to eat it?

But now it seems that eating this abomination has gone to the extreme.

I was looking through my subscriptions and noticed one from last year in GT that was started by Visionary has be resurrected once again. Would God eat a ham sandwich?

As I read the replies my heart is heavy and my stomach revolts. I don't understand how someone can say they love G-d and make those kinds of remarks and not realize the total disrespect and hate they are showing for the one they say they love.

It was only a matter of time before there was a television series devoted to bacon.
I agree, couldn't have said it better myself, just a matter of time.
Have any of you seen this or heard about it?

'United States Of Bacon' TV Show On Destination America To Premiere December 30

I remember seeing an ad on TV for this but only caught it towards the end. Maybe because this is an odd channel I either don't get or have even watched.

Destination America channel, owned by Discovery, will premiere "United States Of Bacon" on December 30 at 10 and 10:30 p.m.

Don't you love the description?

In the first episode, Fisher samples a chunky peanut butter bacon cheeseburger, checks out a daily bacon happy hour, eats a garbage platter with five kinds of meat and then has some bacon-wrapped meatloaf and bacon cheddar apple pie. The second episode brings even more gluttony including deep-dish pizza and a triple-decker BLT.

One of many website that are devoted to Bacon

Bacon Today, Daily News on the World of Sweet, Sweet, Bacon

Travel around America and eat lots of bacon? We bet you want to know how you could score a job like that…

What do you think is the root of this obsession?

People like pork and they eat what they want. I haven't noticed a bacon obsession. I've noticed less people eating meat and more push for humanly raised, organic meats. Personally, I only know a few people who eat bacon. Shows like that are put on the air because they are over the top and bizarre, which gets people to watch.

Walk by tables in restaurants at breakfast - bet you'd see bacon on almost every plate. Check out menus - pig is featured. No, it's becoming the meat of choice. I guess it depends on where you live.

Just happened upon this.

"I love bacon more than I love my job," (said by an attendee at the Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival, and it wasn't even a man )

Urbandale resident Mike Vogel showed up for a fourth year wearing a head-to-toe bacon costume. He said a widespread love for bacon is the reason about 8,000 tickets to the event sold out in just over three minutes.
The festival was preceded earlier in the week with a bacon queen pageant and a pig pardon by Gov. Terry Branstad.

bacon used to be just a breakfast food. Now chefs from across the state and country use it in everything from vegetable dishes to desserts. "It's come a long way and you can find it in almost any kind of food or beverage offering," she said.

Only give this a watch if you aren't afraid of porcine nightmares. ;)

I heard someone on the radio talking about an apple bacon pie they made and how everyone loved it. Even if I ate bacon, it sounds disgusting!

I was raised on it and loved the taste of bacon right up until I learned the truth and quit eating it 12 years ago. But I have to agree here, that just doesn't sound very good.

Everything should taste like bacon? Who's propagating this line of thought? Someone is making money off of this new fad.

My boss and his wife are Orthodox Jews who moved here from Israel. Their favorite food is bacon and they love to work on Shabbat (weekends are optional for overtime). Can someone please explain this to me?
