  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is it possible to worship a contradiction? No? Then why are Believers accused?

It is not actually possible to worship a contradiction, is it?

I mean you don't say "something both is and is not the case, therefore I will say "Hooray, I have found my purpose in life" "? Do you?

Ok so, what does "there are contradictions in the Bible" have to do with "Worshipping God"? Is there even a small connection? Is it quite possible that human beings in general, make mistakes?

What I think people's complaints about contradictions points to is either:
a) narcissism that has folded back on itself and started to devour its own desire to be motivated narcissism
b) hatred of the simplicity of the faith, which says that "whatever contradictions there may be, there is still a reason to worship God"
c) hatred of the exposure of narcissism because of simplicity, which does not extend to "what ever", in the name of Jesus Christ, who was not simply simple, simply narcissistic, or simply exposed... to any degree.

Let's at least keep the desire to be motivated narcissism?

Let's at least keep the recognition that simplicity in itself is not enough to criticise someone for?

Let's at least keep open the possibility that "what ever" does not mean "praise nothing"?

Let's at least laugh that contradictions are hard to praise someone because of, at best?

Aren't Bible contradictions meant to be against the inerrancy of the Bible, rather than the worship of God? One doesn't have to think the Bible is without error to worship God.

I believe you just said what I said, after questioning that I was saying what I said.

For the benefit of those who would like more than just this point, allow me to point out that finding fault with an inerrancy, in no way detracts from the argument that we shoud be focussed on praise any way.

Furthermore, contradictions do not impoverish praise, such that the quality of the praise is worse, should it turn out that the contradiction is false, but the God is true.

One word - denial. Denial means it is entirely possible to worship something contradictory, because the person worshipping is in denial that it is contradictory.

Is it possible to worship a contradiction?

It's possible to worship everything and anything.

Then why are Believers accused?

What are believers supposedly accused of?

Believers are accused of worshipping the contradiction.

While you are right it is possible to do anything, some things are so foolish no one bothers to even contemplate them.

See the next post.

Actually, if you think about what you have said, you will realize it is you who is in denial.

I said we don't.

You said we do.

But we don't.

And I have been where they would, if they did, and they don't.

So...

It's an alternative, and one that cannot be ruled out. Your denial of your denial is no more credible than your initial denial

In addition to denial you can add in apathy of thought.

One could easily worship a God while holding contradictory thoughts about this God if one does not spend the time to logically think through and find the contradictions. After all worship does not require perfect, or even good, understanding.

Absolutly, and I know many beleivers who fit this description precisely.

I find your denial deniably deniable.

If you knew it was a contradiction, why would you worship it, for that?

I think that even though you say, "I do not understand (how I can get it confused when it is so obvious)" you do understand.

You say worship does not require perfect understanding. You could not be that correct, unless you had first been right that it is not the contradiction we worship, which was my point.

Certainly it would be ludicrous to think that we actively look for contradictions to worship.

If so, what is the difference?

I point out contradicitions to show the Bible isnt perfect and therefore not completely written by God through men's hands. Men had to put the imperfections in the Bible.

Which has to do with worship, what?

You are agreeing before you even know how it is you would worship if indeed you ever could, and therefore, without knowing how you will be compensated whether you do or not (worship).

I'm not one denying things ^_^

If you knew it was a contradiction, why would you worship it, for that?

Well, I wouldn't. But that's the great thing about denial - it allows you to ignore things like knowing something is a contradiction. If someone was being honest about something being contradictory then they would not worship it. But the fact that some people worship something implying that something isn't contradictory - an utter failure of logic on your part.

I dont quite understand what you are asking.

I asked you what the relevance of pointing out contradictions for the sake of it was.

I further gave you the subject which for the purposes of this thread it should be relevant to.

I suspect the absence of your ability to reason how to make something relevant points to the fact that you were not prepared to agree to anything.
