Hey everyone, it's been a while since I've posted and I think this is my first post in Christian Scriptures. Anyways, I'm planning on getting a tattoo and I want to get something like this
the_lion_of_judah_triumphant_over_the_dragon-780x1024.jpg
with "Lion of Judah" written underneath in Hebrew.

Now the problem is, I've googled how to write the term in Hebrew and I've found different answers, I've even cam across a site that shows tattoos with wrong Hebrew writing Codex: Biblical Studies Blogspot » Blog Archive » Hebrew Tattoos: Buyers Beware! (Best of Codex) I just want to be sure I get it written correctly because it will be a bit permanent ;)

“Do not cut your bodies for the dead, and do not mark your skin with tattoos. I am the Lord. (Leviticus 19:28)

Just sayin ...

Did you read Leviticus? Or just google the verse about tattoos and throw it in my face?

"When you enter the land and plant all kinds of trees for food, then you shall count their fruit as forbidden. Three years it shall be forbidden to you; it shall not be eaten." (Leviticus 18:23) do you keep fruit for three years before you eat it? Well according to your understanding of Leviticus, that's obviously a sin also.

What about the verse right before the one you threw at me? "You shall not round off the side-growth of your heads nor harm the edges of your beard." (Leviticus 18:27) You must have a pretty massive beard if you don't shave, and if you do shave, you're obviously going to hell, according to your understanding of Leviticus. Just sayin.

The pagan practice of this time (The context in which Leviticus is meant) was to mark yourself up in worship of the dead.

My point is, you can't just take verses out of context. Now can we get back to my original question?

Since when did Christ remain in the grave? Truly he has risen and is sitting at the right hand of the Father.

Actually, the verse in Leviticus raises another concern, other than the obvious.

I am not going to get into a debate about whether the Torah applies to Gentiles or not, but there is something that is certain:

The Jewish people still follow the Torah, and take it very seriously.

What you are saying is that you want to use the language of the Jewish people and a phrase that is considered reverent and sacred to them ("The Lion of Judah") and to place it on your body in a way that is utterly insulting to them. It's offensive.

If we are to love Adonai's chosen people, and try to show them that Yeshua is the Messiah that they are searching for, we should take due diligence to understand them, and to not do something to them that they would consider disgraceful and distasteful.

I would highly recommend that you reconsider your decision if you ever care to be a witness of HaMashiac to the Jewish people.

Amazing advice. Thank you!

You cannot find this in the Old Testament. First usage is Revelations 5:5 and it is in Greek.

And it doesn't say "The Lion of Judah," but "The Lion from the tribe of Judah."

It does refer back to something in the OT, though.

As a Christian, I also find it offensive that 1. an image of a cross – one of the most heinous torture devices of the ancient world on which my lord was horribly mutilated and slaughtered – is shown in light and reverence and 2. that my prince of peace, who waged no war, who lifted no sword, who showed no fang, who raised no claw or hand in defense, is symbolized as a beast of prey. Utterly vile and contemptible.

We read different Bibles, obviously.

Revelation 5:5: And one of the elders said to me, “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.”

1 Corinthians 1:18: For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

See, I view the cross a bit differently. The symbol of the cross is fantastic precisely because it has been subverted. What was a Roman symbol and instrument of terror has become, by Christ, a symbol of liberation and salvation.

The cross is ugly, horrifying, destructive; which is precisely why it has meaning and power. By it Christ subverted the violent powers of the world, trampled upon Death by His death, and made them inept and powerless. By it we see Christ's holy victory over violence, death, and the grave.

As for Christ portrayed as a lion, perhaps one might look to C.S. Lewis' use and portrayal of Aslan in the Narnia series. Christ is the Lion, not because He is a violent predator, but because He is King, powerful; but not a violent power, He is Lamb-and-Lion. Powerful in peace, powerful over violence by His victory over and against the violence of this world.

Oh, just you wait. He will wage a war, and it will be the most profound war in the history of the world. He will return and, like a lion, hunt down each and every one of his wicked enemies.
