  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was inspired to begin this thread b/c of an article that I came across. I notice this in African-American churches in particular that they are beginning to integrate more music from Caucassian worshipers into their worship sessions. This should not be about race, but to some extent it is, b/c generally speaking, Blacks and Whites are different musically. W/ that being said, African-American churches are beginning to integrate music from Hillsong, Chris Tomlin, etc into their music selections. I think it's a great thing b/c honestly, some of the best worship music comes from artists such as Despiration Band, Gateway Worship, Kari Jobe, etc.. and it allows us to expand our minds and perhaps go and seek out singers that we may not have looked at in the past based on their ethnicity or their sound.

Of course we tend to "black" them up w/ our sound and instrument differences (generally African-American churches put more emphasis on keyboards, pianos, and organs while Caucasian churches put more emphasis on guitars). Artists like Israel Houghton, who's bi-racial appeal to audiences of all races. What do you think about this erasing the color lines?

Here is the article: Imade iN Truth

Funny that!....our band is actually going the other direction and looking to play more gospel/blues stuff!

Works both way's and it's great to see.

We spent a Sunday in fellowship with some ladies from the Caribbean. They were awesome in their praise and the singing was inspirational. We still email each other.

Britain is non-racial now but we have very few black folks here in Northern Ireland which is a shame as we could do with getting them to show us how to get that giant gospel sound...

I know this is an old thread but i just had to share this. I realized this last week when our ministry band played at a black church. It was 4 of us. I am white (bass player) and so is our singer. Our guitarist and drummer are black. I must admit when we got there i really felt out of place. Especially with the style songs we were doing. All of the groups were singing quartet style songs. Then we got up and opened up with Hello my name is by Matthew West, then Jesus rides the subway, and then Majesty. To my surprise they loved it! We were also invited by one of the other singing groups to come and sing at their place. I think it is great that we can all ignore color and worship alongside each other.
