• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If man marries man and woman marries woman then we will all cease to exist..... now that is a fact....

If you live in another dimension where everyone did such, maybe.
But then if that was the norm in that dimension, things would probably work differently to make it a non-issue.:p

Marriage =/= reproduction.

And besides, legalising same-sex marriage won't mean that everybody will want to get married to someone of the same sex as themselves. It's just making the option available for the 5% or so of the population who might be interested.

Marriage = well-adjusted children who contribute to society.

Actually, I think it more of Children who don't don't grow up with family issues are more likely to grow into an adult with less emotional baggage.

In some cases yes. Not in all, by any means.

But if you're going to argue that marriage = well-adjusted children, that would be an argument *for* same-sex marriage, since it would suggest that any children whom married same-sex couples either adopt or conceive through artificial means will grow up to be well-adjusted.

Just, as Tulc would say, sayin'. :)

Maybe Stonewall can turn their attention to "all-female gym" businesses such as Curves. I don't think they would put pressure on them if I wanted to join such a gym, even though I "can't help the way I was born". Same argument. Yet, conveniently; there is one rule for one and one rule for another.

If all gyms prevented men from joining, you'd have a point here.

That is not the point. The point is that the Christian couple who hired out their home as a bed and breakfast didn't want gay couples there. And that in the eyes of Stonewall and the media was wrong. Yet, they could have gone wherever they wanted to stay. Plenty of other hotels etc. in the area.

If I used the same argument in wanting to join an "all-female" gym, I would be laughed out of the door.

One rule for one. One rule for another.

Oh we're talking about that and not his comments on gay marriage. You weren't clear.

Absolutely, why insist that a child should adhere to a particular belief or non-belief?

Let them develop, and when the time is right they will make the choice.

Spoon feeding children the beliefs of the parents is similar to force feeding geese.

But how can they make the right choice if truth is withheld from him/her?

That same question applies to children in any environment. We are all guilty of withholding or spinning information so that we present our personal version of truth, and that is what children get.

No, cannot agree with you there. The younger generation have greater access to greater amounts of info at a very early age via the internet. The problem is that they are being deprived of real truth that only Christianity provides thru God's Holy Word.

You are quite right. The government have excepted these gyms from anti-discrimination laws, and I also see no good reason for that exception being granted. But that doesn't mean anyone else should be granted such an exception, it means we should review the exception that has been granted in this instance.
