  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

All true believers in God are led by the Spirit of God. Only the delusional, lusting against God, view believers in God as confused. The gospel is foolishness unto those who do not believe. To those that believe in God, it is the power, salvation.

Bummer that you aren't led by "the Spirit of God".

Blah. Who is zeus, a roman fairy tale. Jesus is real. God wins. Feel free to fail again, God is God alone. :)

Actually, Zeus was Greek, not Roman. Jupiter was Roman.

And your Jesus isn't any more real than either of them..... But thanks for coming out.

It didn't take much for a doubter to run. I guarantee, if one truely believes in the eternal God, the Creator of all, that one will stand through every attack. :)

Proof presents itself, again.

Absolutely, so you accept Zeus? I'm glad to hear it.

Gods words are eternal. It is love. Love is merciful and eternal. :)

No they aren't.

And quite frankly, based on the quality of your replies, I am quite comfortable in totally writing off everything you have said so far.

Provide evidence, or kindly stop spamming nonsense.

If there is no God, then all that exists is time and chance acting on matter. If this is true then the difference between your thoughts and mine correspond to the difference between shaking up a bottle of Mountain Dew and a bottle of Dr. Pepper. You simply fizz atheistically and I fizz theistically. This means that you do not hold to atheism because it is true , but rather because of a series of chemical reactions… … Morality, tragedy, and sorrow are equally evanescent. They are all empty sensations created by the chemical reactions of the brain, in turn created by too much pizza the night before. If there is no God, then all abstractions are chemical epiphenomena, like swamp gas over fetid water. This means that we have no reason for assigning truth and falsity to the chemical fizz we call reasoning or right and wrong to the irrational reaction we call morality. If no God, mankind is a set of bi-pedal carbon units of mostly water. And nothing else.

If the solar system was brought about by an accidental collision, then the appearance of organic life on this planet was also an accident, and the whole evolution of Man was an accident too. If so, then all our present thoughts are mere accidents - the accidental by-product of the movement of atoms. And this holds for the thoughts of the materialists and astronomers as well as for anyone else's. But if their thoughts - i.e., Materialism and Astronomy - are mere accidental by-products, why should we believe them to be true? I see no reason for believing that one accident should be able to give me a correct account of all the other accidents. It's like expecting the accidental shape taken by the splash when you upset a milk-jug should give you a correct account of how the jug was made and why it was upset. C.S. Lewis

I'm sceptical of both the system you believe in that posits God as well your theories of how things would be without one. Your claiming an aweful large amount of objective knowledge. Seems like a lot of pretense to me. Especially considering the fact that proving even one aspect of your theory would end in either infinite regresss or simply assuming that something is true without proof.

I don't understand this conclusion that life has no meaning without a belief in god. As an atheist the world is just and real as it was when I believed. I live, I love, I work, I think and breath just like you do, just like I used to when I believed in god.

Have you explained how this is any different if there is a God? Of course, you haven't. You can't.

How come God created this and not another universe, huh?
- Chance? (<-- Can't be.)
- Necessity? (<-- Can't be either.)
- Free Will? (<-- Always a popular non-answer.)
- Don't know? (<-- Popular too.)
- Maybe God just fizzed one way and not the other when at one point in atemporality It 'made' the universe "begin to exist". (<-- Maybe this is just rubbish. At least I did not come up with this begins-to-exist stuff. And neither did I come up with this fizzing stuff.)

From The Tell-Tale Brain:
V.S. Ramachandran said:
Humans are apes. So too we are mammals. We are vertebrates. We are pulpy, throbbing colonies of tens of trillions of cells. We are all of these things, but we are not "merely" these things. And we are, in addition, to all these things, something unique, something unprecedented, something transcendent. We are something truly new under the sun, with uncharted and perhaps limitless potential.

I don't get that last sentence. Atheism is not nihilism.

Neither is it reductive materialism, epiphenominalism, or misuses of the word "chance".

No intelligent beings exist as well.

Your argument fails because it assums humans aren't intelligent

You are making the same mistake as before, you assume humans aren't intelligent. We are thus your argument fails.
