What I want to know is this...

WLC debates lots of atheists. Surely in all those debates he's learned that self-professing atheists view the term as meaning "a disbelief in a god of gods", rather than "a belief that a god or gods do not exist." The same goes for agnosticism.

Given the fact that he must know this, what's his reasoning for presenting on his website definitions that run counter to what atheists say, as well as dictionary definitions?

He knows, but he prefers to pontificate in a manner that makes him look like he is right.

It's called obfuscation and intellectual dishonesty.

If we don't find evidence for God one might think that we have a sincerely good reason to either lack a positive belief in God or doubt it's existence.

It's how rational people approach questions in just about every single other area of their lives.

For instance: If someone came up to me on the street tomorrow and told me they had a great diet that would help me stay in shape and thin and had absolutely no objective evidence to back it up I would doubt their claims too.

I find it quite ironic how offensive and indignant atheists get when their unsubstantiated views are challenged and yet, when they challenge a Christian's views, which are the only one's that have a basis in rational, logical, reality, they seem confused as to how they could be offended?

This advocation of a hypocritical double-standard is not becoming of men and women who pride themselves on being objective.

You misunderstand why atheists get indignated at you.

It might have to do with how you communicate and how you treat atheists more than anything else. This has been pointed out to you quite often. The fact that you stereotype atheists, make claims about atheists and condescend and patronise them frequently.

I'm currently reading a book called The Dawkins Letters-Challenging Atheist Myths by David Robertson. It is an excellent response to Dawkin's The God Delusion.
Does anyone know of a book and/or website that answers atheism in a comprehensive way?

Yes I do. I promise it will be one of the best books that you will ever read.

I have looked at porn, but not much in the last couple of years. I do cuss, but not as much lately. I do drink. I still crave cigarettes. I don't lie too often. And I know that I'm no saint, I'm a worthless sinner but God's grace and Spirit regenerates and gives true life.

You're not a 'worthless sinner'. You are a human being with, like us all, a frontal lobe too small and an adrenaline gland too large. And despite this, you are a human being with dignity. That can understand our true lot in this life- our only life.

If there is one thing I despise about the Judeo-Christian religions, among others, is the self-flagellation. The belief that one is born disgusting and worthless, and sick. It's repulsive. It shackles us to a belief that we are worthless by ourselves- that we need something other than ourselves to help us through. It wipes away our dignity.

We do need something. We need the strength of our convictions. The only way for us to move forward is to help ourselves and one another as a people. We can't count on imaginary deities to bring us there. We have to do it, as we have been doing it for thousands of years. Education. Science. Technology. Progress. And to bring it all together...Art. Philosophy. Meaningful lives that we make for ourselves.

I know that as long as we fear death we will have these shackles. However, there may come a day when we will be truly free.

you misinterpret me Danyc. It is far from self-flagellation. I am not afraid to speak the truth. Compared to God's standards I am worthless. But in the context of a personal relationship with God I am priceless in His eyes and mine. I do not despise myself or any other human. God loves us nd myself, and I also love others and myself.

The fact that I need God doesn't wipe away my dignity, it wipes away my hubris. It gives me true meaning and purpose, something atheism will always lack.

It's usually very difficult to determine what's tongue in cheek over a chat forum, especially one where many posters would say things a whole lot worse than go suck an egg.... For example, we're immoral reprobates that deserve to burn for all eternity.

So you're not perfect, join the club. That doesn't mean you're a bad person, despite what your religion teaches.

This is one of my main issues with Christianity... the fact that it's actually convinced billions of people that they're worthless. It's a disgusting teaching.

But, I do have to give credit where credit is due... it's brilliant marketing. Create a need by convincing people they're worthless and condemned... then provide the cure for the need you created. It's a guaranteed recipe to make a fortune while keeping all the little sheep in line.

Simply was bringing to light how much people get their panties in a wad. We are all in this together. Why take it so serious?
