He never met the Heaven's Gate Cult, did he?
Probably nothing; but it certainly would be an exception to this doosey of a comment:What would that have altered?
He considers religion to be a failing of education, something people grow out of as they learn - thus, the amount of religious people in the US is, to him, indicative of a poor educational system.
Probably nothing; but it certainly would be an exception to this doosey of a comment:
Those 39 people who died were mainly webmasters ... highly-sought webmasters.I don't follow. Reading through the wiki page Heaven's Gate looks like a mishmash of extremist religion added to a load of new age nonsense. Both extremist religion and new age stuff appeal to the same educational sector. I'm completely missing the point you are making.
Those 39 people who died were mainly webmasters ... highly-sought webmasters.
Their website (highersource), was a state-of-the-art piece of work.
In short, those people had the smarts of mensa and the creativity of mad scientists.
They are indicative of people who can have a high IQ and be religious at the same time.
Of course, [the late] Mr. Henry Morris and others are swept under the carpet by Internet scientists; but Heaven's Gate is hard to sweep away.
Joke of the Day:
You would too, if you had to work with Windows 95!
Why then do we have posts like:Webmasters?
You are confusing geekiness with level of education. One can have an IQ of 200 and it means absolutely nothing if your level of education is poor.
You really need to get a education so you can be smarter then them who doesnt have any?
Why then do we have posts like:
(I made that up.)
Let's simplify this:I have no idea what point you are trying to make.
Science does not back him up. They can show that religion develops parts of the brain that clearly he never developed. Areas he would show a flat line on a brain scan. Simply making him less functional then religious people. He considers religion to be a failing of education, something people grow out of as they learn
Let's simplify this:
Religion and education have no symbiotic relationship.
You can be religious and educated.
You can be religious and uneducated.
You can be non-religious and educated.
You can be non-religious and uneducated.
Science does not back him up. They can show that religion develops parts of the brain that clearly he never developed. Areas he would show a flat line on a brain scan. Simply making him less functional then religious people.
Only if you ignore the past. But the statistics continually show that creationism is most popular among those with poor levels of education.

"There's a hole in our knowledge, we leap frog from the Renaissance to the Greeks," professor Salim al-Hassani, Chairman of the Foundation for Science, Technology and Civilisation, and editor of the book told CNN.
Only if you ignore the past.
Just remember that it was a creationist who invented the computer.Or alternatively, you could say that creationism is popular among those whose education doesn't include much of the stuff learnt since The Enlightenment.
Creationists don't like evolution because it shows how ridiculous their belief is and science because for them it's hard.
You do realize Theistic Evolutionists are creationists too, do you not?I disagree, Creationists don't like evolution because it conflicts with their view of Genesis 1. If you wish to think believing in God is ridiculous, your opinion is noted, and one of a minority, whether valid or not. Nevertheless, I do understand what you are trying to convey, I just disagree with your approach.![]()

That's what it says in your profile. Are you classifying me as a Theistic Evolutionist?
That's what it says in your profile.
Ooookay ... where were we?I see, in reviewing my profile I didn't notice under the choices for life origins the word evolution off-set just below Theist. I thought I was just checking theist. From the choices available I guess that is closest to my beliefs except, I would prefer to drop the word evolutionist and just indicate Theist. When gets into describing theistic evolution I can imagine many different versions. I prefer to be known as one who just understands the theory of evolution.
I know, semantics.![]()
