• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

what do athiests believe then, how about that!

Aside from not believing in any gods, they believe whatever they believe.

It's the same as with theists. Aside from believing in some divine being or beings, they believe whatever they believe.

eudaimonia,

thats a strawman, to weaken the stand of an opposition.

now please answer what athiesm is.

The only strawman here is the one you have been committing since the original definition of atheism was presented. Why are you asking again when you already know the answer? Stop messing about if you want to be taken seriously here.

Atheism doesn't talk about belief, so you'll have to defer to the individual(s) for that.

It's like asking, "So what are Democrats favorite DVD box set or meal?"

(Btw, are you rearing that child, in your avatar picture?)

It's quite easy for an Atheist to prove that they don't accept a God claim... see, watch....

I, Dave Ellis haven't accepted any God Claim that has been presented to me so far.

Therefore that makes me an Atheist.

Point proven.

that wasn't the definition of atheism, that is you accepting the A definition of athiesm making you an athiest. Not the same.

Skavau was asked for his definition of atheist. He gave it.

He was defining his terms, what exactly needs proving?

Why do you lack belief in Gods?

Just cause or what?

Hey look, you still haven't been reading the thread. Might want to start.

I lack belief in gods because there is no good evidence or argument that I know of to justify belief in one.

I've said as such several times now.

Are you actually reading the posts people make here, gradyll, or are you being deliberately obtuse?

No, that's actually the exact definition of Atheism..... someone who hasn't accepted a God claim.

There's no evidence to justify a belief in them.

okay so you are saying that no evidence exists to justify a belief in God

I am saying no evidence exists to justify a belief in NO God.

so we are both right, and that would settle it.

No, you aren't right. All you have done is uniquely (and thus inconsistently) asserted that belief in your God and only belief in your God is justifiable despite a lack of evidence.

Now, you need to back up this assertion. You need to justify your special pleading.

Dave and the other atheists here have a standard for justification of belief that is consistently applied. You do not.

Personally, I don't believe in a god (or gods) because I don't think that there is any evidence for the existance of any, nor should we think that there should be any.
