  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I recall in Romans it is written "who are you to judge another man's servant?" it is by God that i stand or fall . i think it a bit presumptuous to be judging like that at all . i mean, if i did that .. you would not be happy .

Know the difference MC?

Romans 3:4... let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.

1Cr 10:15 I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.;)

Mat 12:37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

Part of proving all things:thumbsup:

Shown in various ways too, you can work this in

Prov 20:5 Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.

1Cr 2:10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

It was the sixth hour there too, did you notice that Lamb?

Darkness and the sixth hour connect even as the Spirit of God moved upon the face of waters

Gen 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

Notice void in respects to counsel (His Spirit is of) and darkness (of heart) or as without understanding is shown as opposed to Prov 20:5 in relation to counsel show the same of a people (waters)

Duet 32:28 For they are a nation void of counsel, neither is there any understanding in them.

^_^ Too kool!

Compare also:

Job 38:2 Who [is] this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?"

Seems to be consistent lingo, and as such a "key" to understanding what is being said.

How cool, I thought since I ran "Bereas" name I'd try the other (lol)

Berea = "well watered":thumbsup:

Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

Thessalonica = "victory of falsity"

How cool is that?^_^

Actually, Thessaloniki was the name of the half-sister of Alexander the Great and daughter of Phillip of Macedon; some say the city was named for her.

The ending of Thessaloniki means "victory", and is said to commemorate the victory over the inhabitants of Thessalia. Thessalia means roughly "the place where prayers are answered".

Hope that helps :sorry:

I thought to add:
Herodotus and Thucydides (historians) identify the Thessalians as migrating from Epiros and conquering the Phokians (the older inhabitants of the region). While still in Epiros, the Thessalians were called a people "from the place where prayers are processed", as they originally lived in the area of the oracle of Dodona. They just carried their name with them, and gave it to their new place of habitation.

Beroia was named for the goddess of the same name, a daughter some say of Oceanus and Thetis two water dieties, and may mean either "rich in water" (thus Fif's well watered) or "produces pomegranites". Given her parents, I think well watered is more likely.

This passage proves that Scripture is to be held the ultimate authority, certainly more so than "oral testimony". The Bible goes so far as to commend the Bereans as "more noble" than another group, for checking what was testified against Scripture.

This DOESN'T mean that "oral testimony" isn't important; so nobody needs to cry about how the Bereans wouldn't have know Jesus came if not for testimony; it simply means that Scripture is the ultimate authority, not "oral tradition". Oral tradition is good, only if it is in light of Scripture. The Bereans wouldn't have accepted Paul's testimony if it didn't line up with Scripture.

Peace.
Where does this say scripture is the ultimate authority?
Good question

You can read it in the same place you find hitting your thumb with a hammer is a bad idea. Experience has a way of illustrating things our intellect refuses to acknowlege. The experience of the Bereans was that being teachable, they were able to verify new testimony by correlating it with old testimony.
