  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

'Prometheus', a movie coming out in summer 2012, directed by legendary director Ridley Scott, has drawn much of its inspiration from the 'Alien Gospel', also known as the 'Ancient Astronaut Theory'; which states that aliens at some point in the distant past, created humanity and are responsible for the advanced knowledge held by ancient civilizations. This type of theory, which is being promoted heavily in movies and television, completely denies God and helps to prepare the world for a Satanic deception.

Personally, I can't wait to watch it. :) I loved the movies Alien and Aliens and since this is a prequel to those movies, I need to watch it. Fortunately for me, I can watch a movie just for it's entertainment value and not be dragged into these fundamentalist's delusions. And Michael Fassbender is an awesome actor.

If anything affects your walk with the Lord, you shouldn't see/listen to/participate in it.

Seeing however as it doesn't with me, as I know a) it's just a movie, and b) a really sweet looking one at that, I look forward to seeing it.

Anyway, it's fiction. The entertainment industry is not where anyone should be getting their beliefs.

True. I do feel that Hollywood does make some movies masked as entertainment to influence public opinion, but as others have said I can go see a movie such as this and not have my belief in God threatened. If I tried to distance myself from every negative influence out there I might as well go live under a rock.

I have watched various sci-fi movies and televisions series for years, most of which would be incompatible with Christianity if they were true. I am still a Bible-believing Christian. The Bible is where I get my truth. Science fiction is just entertainment.

I sure did lose my faith after watching this last week...my faith in Ridley Scott. :( Don't make a prequel to a movie that you directed and then not even line them up. Geez.

I don't think it's meant to be a direct prequel... just "related."

Have you watched both movies? I would go with "related" if there wasn't one particular large part that would have put the two directly together, but no, he ruined it and now I'm still left hanging. Of course, even if he had made it fluid I still didn't like it.

Yeah, Alien is a pretty good movie. I thought Prometheus was pretty good, too. Alien is about the aliens... Prometheus is about the Engineers, and the humans who love them :)

It's a separate story in the same universe. Stephen King does the same kind of thing - sometimes his characters or locations will pop up in multiple books.

I really enjoyed it. Yes, it's open and doesn't tie everything up neatly but I'm okay with that, especially since they've mentioned that a sequel is possible, which would bridge the gap between Prometheus and Alien. It's not really a prequel; more of an origin story set in the same universe. A lot of it was vague but it's had me and friends talking and that's what's fun about it. Everyone has their own theories and discussing them is part of the fun, at least for me.

The movie was riddled with plot holes, so many in fact that they converged into a plot vortex from which not even the smallest amount of logic, nor consistent characterization escapes.

The real sad part was that a film like Prometheus was already made 40 years ago, only better in every way. Its called 2001: A Space Odyssey

I still haven't seen this but it looks great. The idea of ancient aliens comes from Erich von Däniken and his book chariots of the gods. Its quite an interesting take on things. I read it recently and the opening paragraph talks about how humans will walk on the moon some day... its a bit old now

A friend and I went to see it. Simply amazing! Jaw dropping visuals and it was simply wonderful to dip our toes into the Alien universe again! I anxiously await owning in on BluRay and watching it multiple times to get all the little bits I overlooked.

It's great how it's in the same universe but in no way a direct prequel to Alien.

The door has been left open for more good entertainment.

Fiction folks! It's not meant to convey truth, just Sci Fi entertainment goodness!

I actually went to see it a second time and enjoyed it even more. I caught so much that I missed the first time around and once you know what's going to happen you begin to focus more on the set pieces and dialogue, much of which passed me by the first time. Good sci-fi raises questions and I'm still having fun trying to answer them. :)

That's probably a big point of contention; some people want movies to conclusively answer every question they bring up, and others are happy to have some issues left open for interpretation.

I prefer a little of both :)
