  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

:sigh: Finding a dress is harder than I expected. The one I wanted would take over a month just to get here. So I found one that I do like, but it wasn't my first choice, and it should be here in less than two weeks. Kinda worried about how it'll fit, but... I guess I can always find a seamstress if I need to. I've never used one, though, and have no clue how much it costs to get a dress altered lol.

My guess is the one you wanted was coming from China, and as I said before it's better to avoid those places. I've heard horror stories of girls who ordered from places there only to find the dress too small, flimsy, sewn terribly, etc. Sometimes these sites even steal pictures from other sites and then put their own watermark on them to make them look legit.

Please do your research carefully; and even if you do end up ordering online I would try on dresses somewhere just so you get an idea of what styles DO actually work well on you.

Third, you may actually want to consider buying a pattern and having a seamstress make it for you. Sometimes these seamstresses charge as much to alter as they do to make something different.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the advice :)

Are you getting married in less than a month?

Nooo lol. We haven't set a date, but I want to at least have my dress picked and ready ASAP. I don't want to decide that we want to get married in a month or two and not have a dress; I'd freak out. And since I'm a plus size girl, finding a good fit that is also flattering to my figure, is going to be more of a challenge.

Any ideas yet for the date?

I don't have any specific dates in mind. I would like to wait until spring, which will be March/April. Neither of us are picky about the date, but we DO need to make up our minds soon lol.

We snuck over to Belmont Hall today, even though "technically" there's no trespassing there lol. We just parked and walked around the outside of the house and the gardens a bit. We both totally fell in love with it! It's PERFECT. We have an official appointment to see it on the 29th and I think we'll go ahead and book it :)

Here are some pictures Don took! Belmont Hall - The Fountain Family's Pictures

We've decided on April 6th :) It's Good Friday, so we'll all be off from work/school anyway. Spring should be well underway, so I'll be PRAYING for good weather lol. Delaware is very unpredictable, and springtime can be sunny and 70 degrees, or raining and 40 degrees. Let's all hope for the former :)

Our wedding was simple, but a little daring in execution. We planned on having our wedding in the backyard of our house. We sent out invites while we were still waiting to get the keys to the house. We were almost certain that it was ours, but our realtor was even a little iffy on whether she was sure it was a done deal. It worked out in the end. The main downside was the cleanup afterward. We had a lot of garbage to throw away after. Sadly, there was construction on the main street right next to our house. However, the construction workers were very sweet and did their best to shut down the work before the ceremony started. Parking was still a bit of a nightmare, but we didn't have to deal with the background noise. Was very nice of them.

We went with white gold rings because neither of us like yellow gold. That means recoating periodically, especially since I tend to be a little rough with my jewelry, so keep that in mind if you are looking for rings. ;)

We had yellow, purple and black as our wedding colors. I'd say this it was better to go with colors we really liked rather than trying to fit in the season.

I had a rented tux, though I wouldn't have minded buying it had I had the money at the time. My wife picked her dress out at a discount place. It was a dress she loved right away. It was simple, but looked fantastic on her. Keep discount places in mind when shopping for the dress. I know the dress is super important to a lot of people, but that doesn't mean it has to have a matching price tag.

We were able to get all of our kids into the wedding ceremony - 2 ring bearers, 1 flower girl and the older two were in the wedding party. Our wedding party was a little non-traditional in that I had a best woman instead of a best man.

Since my wife's dad was not at our ceremony, her kids were the ones who "gave her away" to me.

On a side note, it might be worth it to hire a professional to handle the music. We had a volunteer and it glitched so the music we wanted got a little messed up. A professional sound system probably would have been nice too, since I'm sure a lot of people probably missed some of the words spoken during the ceremony.

My best advice would be this: A wedding ceremony and reception has a lot of traditions to it. There is absolutely no reason to not make it your own. If there is something you want to add to it - add it. If there is something you want to leave out - leave it out. This is your day. You definitely don't want to look back and wish that you had done something or not done something, so plan it out the way you want it. Also, it will never go perfectly. If you stress too much about every little detail, you are going to go insane. At some point, things will fall into place and, even with mistakes and unplanned happenings, remember that the most important thing is that the bride is there, the groom is there and you walk away together as husband and wife. Anything else will fade over time.
