It wasn't enough to settle the matter in Acts 15. Christians had a dispute and persons of authority settled the matter. They used Scripture (Amos 9) as well as their theology because Amos 9 ultimately was not explicit with regard to circumcision, the issue at hand, hence their dispute.

Are you finding fault with scripture or their understanding of it. If they didn't understand then you cannot say that scripture is not enough. You have to say that their understanding was not enough.

If it wasn't for scripture you wouldn't know what happened in Acts 15.

Not enough for what exactly?
This was the question asked by the op in the thread;where in the bible does it say to follow it exclusively, to get all doctrines from it? My question is where does it say not to?

God bless

John 17:17
Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.

“Ye do err, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God”
Did not Christ show the hypocrisy of the Pharisee who put their tradition on par with his word?

“Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.”

“To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.”

2 Timothy 3:16-17
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”

Tradition is not for reproof or correction. But if tradition is contradictory to scripture then it is tradition that needs to be adjusted to scripture.

In response to another thread that was recently closed, can anyone show me in scripture where it says scripture alone is not enough? Please show me where scriptures say we need anything else.

God bless

It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Not from the Bible but from the mouth of GOD!

K, so I'm going to pretend to be Catholic here for a sec, and...

We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake [as they were] moved by the Holy Ghost. 2 Pe 1:19-21

There. I win.

And where did we get scripture from. Scripture is inspired, or "God breathed" is it not?

You don't suppose Peter is explaining that the written word is not totally self sufficient?
