  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Were Adam and Eve Jewish?

I would venture a guess at, no. There was no such thing as nationalities back then. The Jews were descendents of the Isrealites who got their name from Jacob.

Thank you for your response. Is being "Jewish" just being a nationality, or is there more to it?

Well, from my view there are two sides. There is the religious part of it and there is the nationality part of it. And here is where it gets wierd. You can be Jewish, ethnically, but not religiously. That is where the Humanistic Jews come into play. But you cannot be Jewish religiously without being Jewish ethnically, as you have to be a descendant of the Isrealite nation, which mean you would have to be a direct descendent of Abraham, but more specifically, Jacob.

Thank you. I'm thinking of spiritually. Were Adam and Eve Jewish?

I would still have to say, no. The Jewish, or Hebrew, religion was not actually created until Moses received the Ten Commandments on Mt. Sinai during the exodus.

really romans 4 establishes the line of demarcation with circumcision, and establishing the jews from gentiles. some say judah and all that though.

3;29 Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also,

4;9 Is this blessing then only for the circumcised, or also for the uncircumcised?

So you're saying that they'd have to be the spiritual children of Abraham to be Jewish?

Adam and Eve are children of God. It was only after the Covenant made between God and Abraham, that the children of God came to be known as Jews.

No. Jews are descendents of Abraham.
Jews are the direct descendants of Judah, one of Jacob's sons.
Later after the split in the kingdom,
benjaminites and some of the levites who dwelt in Judah were likewise refered to as Jews, of the house of Judah.

one thing we know, is that Adam and Eve were believers....flawed believers.

why are you curious brinny?

It started by comments in another thread...and that got me to thinkin.....

In the beginning Adam and Eve were pleasing to God, before the fall. They were children of God. Just wondering about the roots of Jewishness, and what it means to be "righteous" with God.

I didn't give much thought to it till this morning....what an awesome study.

Were they?
No. Neither was Abraham but he was the 1st Hebrew.

Judaism, or being Jewish, is a religion and not a race.

Yeah, because many people do not know Judaism enough to know, that includes many people who call themselves Jew. The word Jew has become to mean something that Jews don't want it to mean.

To be Jewish is to "believe" the religion.

Though Abraham was the Father of the Hebrew nation, he was not Jewish because he did not follow the Mosaic Law.
