I am willing to support Ron Paul on these boards and I do admit that I believe out of all the candidates he's the best.

BUT...

Do you honestly think after everything we have seen regarding Ron Paul, his survival letters, his supporters and entourage, what their beliefs are... do you HONESTLY BELIEVE that Alex Jones and the others are seriously doing this out of the goodness of their hearts?

I am voting for Ron Paul because:
- He is a hard reset button for the economy we so desperately need.
- He is honest and what you see is what you get. That's refreshing.
- He's very intelligent and deals with issues with actual logic instead of buzzwords. Love it.
- He's not for senseless war.
- He's the most fair of any candidate.

But I have said there are many many issues with Ron Paul:
- Gold standard. RP supporters you're right. Racism shouldn't be the big problem with Paul, THIS is. Considering he has money in gold and silver, I could only wonder why he would want us to return to a gold standard. Why not make a standard based on another tangible item like Paladium or Plutonium (hehe) or Copper or Wheaties? Why specifically gold?

- Healthcare issues. Minor, because I understand where he comes from unlike the other conservative candidates, but it's still an issue.

- His Alex Jones supporters I have noticed seem to be just as desperate to get him to win as their supposed "globalists" they claim are desperate to get Paul to lose.

Hello, and thanks for supporting the Doctor! You bring up some good points there, and they deserve a thoughtful response.

Dr. Paul's stance on our monetary policy is often simplified to be, "he supports the gold standard." While this is true, it's a little bit more nuanced than that, which, if you follow him enough, you eventually learn is usually the case. The real truth is that the policy Dr. Paul would actually put into place would be competing currencies, or repealing legal tender laws. Now don't get me wrong, he believes that if this is done, it would push gold and silver to the forefront, as they are the most stable form of money, and have been for the past 6,000 years, but he would NOT mandate that it be so - and honestly, the reason he holds so much gold and silver, is because he believes the things he talks about, not because he's trying to get rich.

As for the Alex Jones crowd, the reason they're so crazy about getting him elected, is, quite frankly, because they're so crazy But seriously, they may believe wild things, but they do care about liberty, and when there's only one guy out there who's been fighting for liberty for 30 years, and who has a real shot at being elected now, it's understandable that they'd be "desperate" to make sure he succeeds at getting elected!

I'm sure these aren't the only problems you have with Ron Paul, but I'm certain that if you take the time to research them, you'll find that, even if you don't agree with him, you can at least reach the point that you have on his healthcare policy. And, lest I forget, I'm certainly glad that you've come out and supported him, despite any issues you may have! Now we just need the rest of the country to do that, and we can achieve liberty within our lifetimes!

You click on the little lightbulb icon to the right of the post #, make a comment if you want, and click ok to give the reps. Whatever your rep power is is how many reps you give them (or 1/1000th your total reputation).

7 trillion ain't a lot of reps, as PGP noted. Those whose reps are maxed out (2^63, or a little over 9 quintillion - a limit of the data type assigned to reputation) give 9 quadrillion rep points in one rep. Anyone who wants can get their reputation maxed out in as little as a day, if they so choose.

No one pays attention to one's reputation any more - it's pretty pointless. The system is so antiquated and CF hasn't cared about or managed the system in years, basically letting it wither on the vine. All reputation is good for now is to make comments to someone about their post.

In fact, no one's been maintaining a lot of these original features on the site in quite awhile - and reputation is perfect proof. Here's what the reputation levels mean:

FWIW, reputation was destined to fail from its inception, the originator not realizing they'd set up an exponential function (similar to compound interest), which is why so many have reached the maximum, and why it's now possible to do it in no time at all.

They could fix it if they wanted to - but no one cares, and no one has cared about it for years now - despite repeated pleas they fix it. No one cares to put even a modicum of time anymore into fixing it and making it fun again (and all it'd take is about 30 minutes' programming time, max).

Blessings are the same way. They've just diluted their value to the point of being entirely worthless. E.g. if you have 50,000 posts you "earn" 1,000 blessings a week (if you have a job and collect them). Big deal. You can get 2,000,000 blessings for one rep in the Repaholics Subforum. 1,000? Worthless. So the value of blessings is just another way to comment / encourage someone on the side.

Blessings could be fixed in less than 10 minutes if someone cared.

I remember "blessing" posters back in the day. It seems a little pointless now, along with the rep system.
I guess if they just knocked off a bunch of zeroes that would be a start to making them relevant again.

Well, they're still good for giving comments to people, and encouraging them off-line. That's a good thing.

The way to fix reputation is to re-set the system (everyone back to zero), then - and this is key - eliminate the exponential nature of it. The only way to do that is to make one's rep power a function of their total post count, not their total reputation. That would eliminate the compounding (exponential) nature of reputation.

My only beef with blessings has to do with jobs and the "salary" one gets with them. They don't need to reset blessings, just re-define, re-calibrate the number of blessings one gets for each job level one is at. Right now if you've got 1000 posts, your "salary" each week is just 100 blessings. You can get that with 10-12 posts. That makes the job system utterly worthless. They need to up the ante and give out more blessings as "salary."

They just need to re-engage and make the site fun and interesting again. Many of the "fun" forums are near ghost towns due to lack of interest, imagination, and concern - heck, how often, and where do you even see staff posting anymore in the regular forums? Not here, that's for sure, and then only one or two of them, maybe three. For all intents and purposes, we're just running on auto-pilot (imho).
