  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Cupid Dave,

Thanks for the extra work of providing the chapter & verse references. Can I use all that in my research?

But, did you answer my question of are you implying that Elijah and Jesus were incarnations of the same eternal[sup]7[/sup] soul[sup]4[/sup]?

Brad,...
Brad,.. where are you?

Yes, I am directly stating that Christ was The Elijah, returned as immortal, in 32AD.
How else could we look at the events?

Elijah returning after 800 years is the very essence of a God, immortality.

Christians are stuck with this in their dogma, because we can not have two immortals at the same time in 32AD.

Yes, you can use these ideas because they are right in the Bible.

Are you researching so much now that you have dropped this thread you started???

There is nowhere in scripture that says that Elijah was around in 32 AD and if he were, there is nothing prohibiting more than one "immortal" (though, many reasonable people will see the problem with calling a spirit with no corpereal body immortal. On the other hand, if he were immortal and had a corpereal body, he could not descend as a dove, like you believe.)

This "there can only be one" statement is defeated by scripture. There are many immortal beings, such as the angel Gabriel who told us John is Elijah. Is Gabriel a god because he is immortal? no. Can no other immortal being exist because Gabriel already exists? No.

Certainly, there must be a number of immortal beings, but, according to you that means they each possess the very essence of a god. So, you've thrown monotheism right out the window.

But I am getting way ahead of myself here. You have been unable to substantiate that Elijah did return "800 years later." This is a bare assertion that you've nested in circular logic. If you can get past that hurdle, then everything I said earlier in this post would apply. There is no reason why Elijah and Jesus and maybe even Moses could not sit down and have a nice cup of tea. Nothing prevents this.

In fact, the bible tells us this actually happened.

Malachi 3

1 “I will send my messenger, (The Elijah in 32AD), who will prepare the way, (Jesus: “I am the way”… John 14:6), before me, (God).

Then, (the day of my messenger), suddenly the Lord, (The Elijah) you are seeking will come to his temple: (John 7:28 Then cried Jesus in the temple… he that sent me, [Elijah], is true); the messenger of the covenant (of Moses: Deut 18:15), whom you desire, will come, says the LORD Almighty.

2 But who (Christian or Jew, or atheist), can endure the day of his, Elijah), coming?
Who can stand (it) when he appears?

For he will be like a refiner’s fire, (Matt 3:1: “He will fire-baptize with the fan in his hand”) or a launderer’s soap

3 He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the Levites (with the fan of the fingers of his hand) and refine them like gold and silver.

Then, (in Universal Christianity), the LORD will have men who will bring offerings in righteousness (for 1000 years of RC universal Christian monasticism),

4 and the offerings of Judah and (the New) Jerusalem [Rev 21:16] will be acceptable to the LORD, as in days gone by, as in former years (for a millennium).

Malachi 3

Mal 3:1 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.

Mal 3:2 But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he [is] like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap:

Mal 3:3 And he shall sit [as] a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.

Mal 3:4 Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant unto the LORD, as in the days of old, and as in former years

Once we remove the "evidence" that you added, we see that these passages do not say anything regarding 32 AD or about fingers fanning.

Of course.
The prophecy did not tell us when.

In fact, most all of the Bible is subject to commentary and exegesis that supplies the meaning intended, especially in regard to predictions.

Predictions only become demonstartable AFTER the fact.
Before, they are subject to authoritative conjecture and assertions.

What we are doing is finding support in Mal 3, when we examine the gospels which show Jesus repeated the visit of Elijah by the things he did.

I don't know if your Rabbi call this Sola Scripture, but the Christians use the term often.

2) The scripture you point to in no way suggests that Elijah would return as a new-born infant or that Jesus was Elijah or repeated the acts of Elijah.

1) I see a lot of hand-waving from you today, but no substance behind what you are saying.

LOL

Are you conceding that on other days you have seen substance???

You accept nothing that supports that Elijah was the Christ because in a debate that is your job, isn't it?

The arbiter is the lurking readers or audience.

2)
Both Elijah and Christ had miraculous births:
Jewish Encyclopedia:
Three different theories regarding Elijah's origin are presented in the Haggadah:
Mention must be made of a statement which, though found only in the later cabalistic literature (Yal?u? Reubeni, Bereshit, 9a, ed. Amsterdam), seems nevertheless to be very old (see Epiphanius, l.c.), and according to which Elijah was an angel in human form, so that he had neither parents nor offspring.
