Your typo was almost Freudian in that Matt 17:3 actually tells us that Elijah was transforming Jesus back to the mere son of man who would later ask, "Eljah, Elijah, why...?"
What readers MUST do is ask themselves what was this Transfiguration on the mountain really about since the Greek word used was Metamorphosis.
Butterflies appear when the worm is transfigured in this same way that Elijah appeared:
