Operating System (with 32/64 bit): Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium (though I tri-boot with other OS' - XP for old 16-bit games and Vista for other stuff that don't work with the other two - mostly Star Wars Battle For Naboo, what can I say? It's a good game).

Graphics Card/GPU: ATI Radeon HD 6870 crossfire with HD 6850 (which is worthless for most games - actually get better performance from just one card on most games).
Favorite game: Tough one, but probably Modern Warfare 2.

The rig's good enough to play pretty much all games at 60 fps on high graphics settings and high resolution detail (I usually use v-sync). Not good enough to run new games like Crysis 2 and Metro 2033 on extremely high settings with AA settings enabled. It's one of the compromises you make: get a larger monitor (resolution 1920 x 1080) and you sacrifice AA and other quality features. The high resolution more than makes up for it IMHO as I can't notice a difference when I did enable extreme graphics settings anyway. :o

You've got a nice rig. How do you find the AMD processors? I was thinking about getting an AMD processor for a laptop, but I wasn't sure how the mobile version compared with Intel, so I just brought an i5 for that one.

Re the graphics card, it depends on how much money you want to spend and what games you want to play. You should also consider how long you intend on having it before you want to replace it. I usually buy my graphics cards from eBay (the buy it now function - not auction).

To run new games on high or very high settings you'll more than likely need something around or above a Nvidia GeForce 280 GTX or a Radeon HD 58** series. Look at the recommended system requirements for the games that you are interested in. If you game on a large monitor you will need an even more powerful card to get good frame rates at higher resolutions. I've seen HD 6950s going for AU$300, HD 6970s for AU$400, and HD 6990s going for AU$900. I haven't really used Nvidia that much, but a lot of people seem to like them more. Just have to be careful with the numbering system for graphics cards - a Radeon HD 6850 isn't comparable to a Radeon HD 5990, for example, but it is better than a HD 5850. Two HD 6850s in crossfire would roughly equal/exceed a single HD 5970.

Some test results that I have seen for Crysis 2 on HD 6790 card:
At 800 x 600 : 166 fps
At 1024 x 768 : 113 fps
At 1366 x 768 : 84 fps
At 1920 x 1080 : 30 fps

As a rule of thumb, anything over 30 fps is playable. I prefer 50-60 fps myself. If you lower the settings you'll get higher fps.

This probably wasn't done using the high resolution textures and DirectX 11 features. I have to turn off high resolution textures for my computer to run Crysis 2 smoothly. Disabling DirectX 11 and using DirectX 9 also makes a massive difference.

Also, the more powerful the card, the more heat is generated. You should keep this in mind as graphics cards can overheat your computer if airflow and cooling is insufficient. I learned that from past experience. New graphics cards are also quite large, so you'd want to make sure that it will fit in your computer first.

RAM: 8 GB G.Skill sniper something-or-other. Runs at 1333 Mhz.

Also rocking a solid state drive and a 5.1 surround sound system. Got those for my birthday. I'll probably be upgrading to this 8 core processor by the end of the year, and will try to hit somewhere around 4.5 GHz overclock with it.

I don't think that the XP Mode on Windows 7 Professional would help with old games though as I read that it doesn't support the 3D graphics drivers or something.

I've heard that DOSBox is good, but I never really spent enough time with it to figure out how to use it. It's a lot easier just to restart the computer and use XP normally. There's an added advantage to dual booting though: if Windows 7 OS stuffs up and won't let me enter the OS (even in Safe Mode, which has happened before to me - corrupted registry or some such) I can still get into XP and copy my data across to that drive.

I've only recently started making disk image copies periodically. Live and learn I guess.

I don't even know if MSX systems were sold in North America. They were popular in Japan and somewhat in Europe. Mine was from Japan.
