• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Forget it. You guys are reading into this way deeper than it needs to be. Why do you think a relationship with anybody is stronger or weaker than anyone else. This, I think is why there are so many Christian sects in the world.

Do you guys think that there isn't love in a relationship with friends as there is for a relationship with you son or daughter. The intensity is much more intense with the latter, but we do have love for our friends. All the rest of these have place in any relationship.

I don't need to be careful what words I use, just those who try to determine the definition of the word IS.

So, are you saying I don't have a relationship with my Fedex delivery guy, who I don't love? Is love a necessary component in every relationship?

As a Christian I love everybody, but you do not have a relationship with your fed ex man. That just a logical fallacy you've thrown out. I don't respond to those. Have a nice day.

I've heard just about every answer for this question, known to man. I was wondering what all of you guys think.

Is it Love.

Is It truth

Is it passion

Is It trust

or Is It commitment?

I'll assume you mean romantic relationships.

I'm not certain how to prioritize these since they largely imply each other. What is love without truth? Or passion without commitment? These qualities depend on each other to have value and meaning. And what is most important to one person might not be as important to another.

I think that what is most important in a relationship is that it is good for you -- that it helps you to flourish. All of those values are likely to be required in some measure. The weighting of those values for you is likely to be personal.

Which logical fallacy is it? Because it looks like it's not a bad point.

(Of course we're reading too deep into this, this is the philosophy forum)

Dude, no one is attacking you. They're trying to figure out what kind of relationship you mean, whether or not you think love/truth/passion/etc are mutually exclusive, and their own opinions by asking you questions.

In philosophy, you honor someone else by arguing with them. It shows that you think someone's ideas are worth taking seriously and merit attention.

Leave him lie, lads... leave him lie. This is probably the first time he's asked someone besides a pastor a question about anything.

Yea. I thought this was the very forum to bring ideas and questions forth and have them taken apart and analyzed.

Do not define me. You have no idea where I've been and who I've spoken to. I do not speak to pastors or preachers
I've been on debate sites for a very long time and have posted hundreds of topics.

Then why are you so defensive when we analyze your question?

That doesn't make you reasonable. Just makes you experienced at being unreasonable.

Where are the "crush my enemies", "see them driven before me" and "hear the lamentations of their women" options in the poll?

Remember, it's rape, pillage, THEN burn.
