  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Steve Jobs was adopted.

Evidently his parents were students at MIT and had an oopsie. I wonder what the world would be like if his mother had had an abortion.
It wouldn't matter because you never would have had the thought "man I wonder what the world would be like if Steve Jobs' fetus hadn't been aborted at 1 week". The tech world would be a little different, that's all.

Don't worry some other egomaniac that used other people to make millions would have come along and replaced him.

They are a dime a dozen.

I wouldn't have to look at those stupid Apple stickers on the backs of people's cars and hear people talk about "how much better Apple is than Microsoft" and how "the iPhone is better than Droid" ^_^

In all honesty, not a whole lot would be different. He didn't do anything that could be considered "one of a kind". It'd be different if we were discussing Edison or Bell...

And what if Charles Manson had been aborted? That's just the first name that came to mind too, pick anybody of similiar background. Serial killers, rapists, you name it. There are people who we'd be worse off without, there are people we'd be better off without.

If Steve Jobs hadn't existed then the couple that adopted him would have adopted another child. While this child Michael Jobs was never the engineering giant that Steve Jobs was, he nevertheless started a fairly successful pool construction company. He married his wife Anne and they had three children, the youngest of which, Julia Jobs, eventually became a clinical researcher on the forefront of the team that developed the world first cross spectrum cancer vaccine.

You'd rather we lived in a world with ipods than a vaccine for cancer?
Shame on you.

Why do you wonder that? If there were no Steve Jobs then you wouldn't wonder that about the world. :D

Seriously though . . .

I sort of know what you mean, I think. I have a relative who had an affair, had the baby and deceived the father that the child was his. Then left her husband a few years later.

I often wonder why she had chosen to have the child. But, I can't imagine having thrown that child away.

It can be a sad thing to think about when you see it that way. It's almost unimaginable.

IF Steve Jobs was not born, then we would probably be talking about someone else with a generally simialr vision only different in names and details.

Steve Jobs got where he was due to a good vision and execution -- in his absence, the market would naturally be demanding things similar to what Mr. Jobs provided.

Likewise... If 'Hitler' had never been born we'd be talking about how evil Stahl or Kramer was.

The National Socialist-like ideals and Fascist doctrine was in place long before him, and the natural attraction people had to them at that time would've been tapped regardless of the person.

Individuals are, in some ways, incredibly influential, and others, not so much...

Now imagine if Stahl would've been more interested in solely pushing Eastwards and not angering the British? Now history would be a bit different.

Hitler didn't want to fight the British. The British got involved because Hitler attacked France.

For every sperm that makes it to an egg, a tens of thousands (at least) don't. For every egg that conceives, 10's of thousands do not.

In most places and times, there are a few people who really, really succeed doing something, and completely change their culture, which means that innovation isn't that rare a trait--it shows up on a pretty regular basis.

So, if Steve Jobs hadn't been born, somebody else would have done something comparable to what he had done. From the earliest humans to us, the world has only ever changed in superficial ways. Nobody that I can think of has done anything to change that.

How do you know someone would have done what Steve Jobs did? How long would that have taken had he not been there to be a tyrant demanding more from his engineers? Just saying, oh well somebody else would have done it is flippant when it comes to people who do extraordinary things.

Yes. He wrote about that in his book.

He should've only focused on the East.
