  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

1 Thessalonian 5:6 confirms that Gospel of Matthew was allready written when 1 Paul wrote 1 Thessalonians. This read from My NABRE Oxford large print Bible parallel verse references

There is no such 'confirmation'. The Gospel of Matthew was written around 80 while Paul wrote i Thess around the year 51.

I would point out that this last idea isn't necessarily referring to what was written at that time, but at the least it must've been taught tot he audience Paul was addressing. (In Church, obviously)

You make good observations.

However, I would argue, with some support, that the Matthew wrote to a community that was in the process of severing any ties to Judaism. On the other hand, Paul wrote to communities which had yet to reach that historical point. But, we can gain a sense of unease between the pagan followers of Jesus and the Jewish followers in Paul's writings.

There is too,
* also Matthew 25:13 compared to 1 Thess 4:13-15 (Mk 13:33 is not as similar). (NABRE notes: ©United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Stay awake: some scolars see this command as an addition to the original parable of Matthew's traditional material, since in Matthew 25:5 all the virgin, wise and foolish, fall asleep. But the wise virgins are adequately equipped for their task, and stay awake may mean no more than to be prepared; cf Mt 24:42, 44)
* and Matthew 5:44 compared to 1 Thess 4:9.
* and Matthew 10:28 compared to 1 Thess 4:14-15, :18.
