I do say so. :)

And sure, I read those posts whining about the bloodletting but the irony is they kept coming back day after day to see us duke it out (and whine about it). When the bloodletting stopped they went away, not before. The “thriving community” you imagine was once here were just spectators at a prizefight. My guess is, they lost interest and drifted on when the forum morphed into the “I agree with you … well, I and you … and you … and you” tone of the current forum.

I think that's a remarkably low assessment of many sincere people who once posted here very regularly.

Perhaps you thrive on "bloodletting", but I suspect most people that have moved on do not.

Personally, I have not noticed much of a difference in the number of people who come here. We’re just a little quieter than we used to be.

I still say that people came here when they smelled blood. People sure didn’t go away when we were engaged in the Holy Wars. They came here because they wanted to see a good fight. It’s human nature, IMO. People love to see a spirited contest. That’s why contact sports draws people by the thousands and friendly chess matches draws them by the ones and twos … or not at all. They went away when things quieted down. I would guarantee that if we locked horns again we would draw the same old crowd of blood sport spectators who would come here if for no other reason than to lecture us on how we should all just try to get along. The irony is that the thing that draws them to the forum is the thing they want to stop and when it stops they drift away.

Like I say, it’s human nature.

you're entitled to your opinion, of course.:)
but the proof is in the pudding.

if people only wanted to see the blood sport there would have been no need of the subsequent WOF, Pentecostal, non-WOF, and other forums to have been created.
But ALL of those forums (and subsequent others which are off-site) were all created for the purpose of getting away from the blood sport and finding peace in unity.

Secondly, many members on all sides have been removed for repeated rules violations while posting. Once again if there were no blood sport taking place they would still be here.
At one time it was very common to see 20+ members all posting here, and for the new posts to go on to the second page. it was the blood sport taking it's casualties which cut the numbers down.

and lastly while the blood sport went on, the Holy Spirit was noteably absent here. So yes, those who were seeking enlightenment, looking for Jesus, and spiritual food here, found something else entirely not to their liking.
And we all lost in the bargain.

Besides what y'all have mentioned here thus far, so to are these

reasons: 1) simplistic or complex posts/comments/threads that

have been beaten/covered to ad nauseam here @CF or other

forums; e.g., someone just threaded here in Spirit Filled a "what

would you do" complex variety type of thread with words or

adjectives that make one wonder what they are really looking

for (or, to do) in the 1st place. Sooooo, i ask could u refraise

your question as its somewhat vague. his response was/is:

"its a simple question." (like i'm the village idiot or something)

the very next post was his also. "i asked what would you do".

ddddddd-duhhhhh........gee, i got that much out of yer orig

question herr macht!

Funny thing is, just as i was expecting him to argue with

genuine answering folk who think they know exactly what it

is he's asking (for), he gets instead folks/responses just like

him/his!!!!!! :hoho: i.e., what goes around comes around:|

If we use big words, (guilty, sometimes...) we have to explain

sometimes. o/wise why should anyone bother with our threads

posts?

And we all lost in the bargain.

And the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Here’s my view.

First, I have not noticed a drop in the number of people who post in this forum. Many have remained, new ones are added, but some of our chronic complainers have gone away.

Incidentally, the only “complainers” I heard who complained about the tone of the forum were those whose arguments were clearly being shown as weak and could no longer be intelligently defended. Rather than admit the obvious error of their positions, they resorted to making frequent reports of posts they found problematic to the Mods (some of whom, not ironically, shared their theological views and who were no better at answering their critics); occasionally getting a few of their better-versed opponents temporarily banned, and making constant complaints in their posts (which I am hearing revived déjà vu in this thread) about the “tone” of the forum, as though they did not contribute to it, conveniently forgetting that their tone was just as ruthless (if not more so) after they went on the defensive trying to defend the indefensible. I heard that it's the bitten dog that yelps the loudest.

And when these red herring attacks did not stop the truth from being presented, many (i.e., some) of these chronic “complainers” (though not all of them) left the forum to lick their wounds and, not surprisingly, the arguments have ceased to be as nasty (at least for the time being).

But if this thread is any indication, it looks like the brief truce might be evaporating.

As for the Holy Spirit being absent from this forum: I found it to be quite the opposite. The Spirit of Truth resides where truth exists and, if I understnad scripture correctly, He will never leave us or forsake us.

~Jim

My reason for not posting so much was the way people were treated. It all started with what they did to Flaglady - someone who devoted many years to helping here was just cut off like she meant nothing - then there were the devil worshipers who were allowed to say just about anything and then those of us regular posters getting warnings for nothing - takes the wind out of your sales.

At one time, this forum was really a learning outlet for me - I have learned many things, because I would go look up something I didn't agree with - didn't just post to be posting - but I miss those learning threads.

I have started using the tool bar and clicking on new posts and not even looking at the forum it is in, but if there is something there that I can contribute to or learn from - I click on all the new posts that interest me, instead of just coming to the SF/C forum - it gets interesting and sometimes just shake my head and walk away.

Here’s my view.

First, I have not noticed a drop in the number of people who post in this forum.

Then you are in denial, or you aren't very observant.

It is an indisuputable and verifiable fact that this forum used to get FAR more traffic than it does today. All one has to do is go back a few years on the thread index and look for themselves.

Many have remained, new ones are added, but some of our chronic complainers have gone away.

Many have gone. People on all sides of the issues have moved on. Deny it all you want. Look! A squirrel! :p

What an enormous load of self-aggrandizing cow flop. :D

But if this thread is any indication, it looks like the brief truce might be evaporating.

Well if so, we'll get to see if your delusional theory, that people left because there wasn't enough fighting to satisfy their insatiable appetite for blood, holds any water at all.

Well if so, we'll get to see if your delusional theory, that people left because there wasn't enough fighting to satisfy their insatiable appetite for blood, holds any water at all.

And what I think is that you are creating a monster that simply does not exist. If there were a drop in the attendance at this forum (which I still say there isn’t … go back and look for yourself) but even if there is a drop, the reasons may not be what you would want us to believe. It could be that the forum has become so innocuous and “bless me” that few are as interested as they used to be. I concur, it is all that I can do to come to this forum anymore.

C’mon, Pete, if what you believe is true—that rancor is what has driven people away from this forum—then shouldn’t you refrain from using terms like “self-aggrandizing cow flop” and “delusional,” when referring to people you disagree with? Isn’t that what you are saying has driven people away?

I have looked for myself. Have you?

but even if there is a drop,

No "if" about it. :p

the reasons may not be what you would want us to believe.

I suspect the reasons people have left are many and varied.

It could be that the forum has become so innocuous and “bless me” that few are as interested as they used to be. I concur, it is all that I can do to come to this forum anymore.

This is amusing. Who are you "concur[ring]" with? Yourself? ^_^

It seems to me that you're projecting your desire for "bloodletting" onto others, when no one (except you) has expressed a desire for more bloodshed.

C’mon, Pete, if what you believe is true—that rancor is what has driven people away from this forum—then shouldn’t you refrain from using terms like “self-aggrandizing cow flop”

When you refrain from using self-aggrandizing cow flop, I'll refrain from calling you on it. ;)

and “delusional,” when referring to people you disagree with?

I thought "delusional" was putting it mildly.

It's absolutely amazing to me that after this forum has slowed to a crawl, in no small part due to the endless strife here, that you would suggest that MORE strife is the answer.

There may be another reason why the WOF’ers have left this forum … Proselytizing.

BTW, Isn’t this your forum, Pete? Click HERE ;)

I guess the SF/PC WOF subforum wasn’t enough of a shield against the truth.

Like they say, you can run from the truth but you can’t hide.

I thought that was you peeking from the shadows. Why are you so obsessed with me? :D

No one's running from you and your imagined version of the "truth". HGO has existed since 2007. It was created as a refuge from the incessant strife prevalent here.

Interestingly enough, my forum (which sees only 20-25 unique member visits per day) has more traffic than this forum. And we're respectful, even when we disagree. What a crazy notion. ;)

Anyway, thanks for the free advertisement.

Despite your false accusation, I don't "proselytize". In fact, I've never posted a link to HGO publicly in this forum (though there is, and has been a link in my profile since the inception of HGO). I have invited a handful of members who expressed their frustration with the strife here, but beyond that, HGO has grown into what it is now all on its own.

I disagree. A lot of Christians are looking for friendship, fellowship, encouragement, friendly discussion of topical issues, prayer support. Strife is a big turn off.

I have been a member of Pete's forum for awhile - You can go back and read every post there - you won't find him knocking SF/CF in one of them. In fact he tells us very plainly that HGO is not a place to bash SF/CF. You will find a lot of sadness expressed there for the demise of what use to be the best Forum on the internet. Yes there are several of us there that use to be here a lot - like minds gathering for an on-line family of our friends You will find many stating they keep coming back to see if things could be the same. You will find people with deep hurts and those treated wrong. But you will not find one happy about the demise of what we enjoyed for so many years.

That was said tongue-in-cheek, Lis.

But I think you know that.

You know, it strikes me as odd that those who condemn argument and want “fellowship” seem to continually want to argue in this forum. If you want fellowship (I mean, really want to fellowship), I will fellowship, but if you want to misrepresent statements for the sake of trying to make an otherwise invalid point, then that is another matter.

Inviting someone somewhere is now considered "proselytizing"? I'll have to remember that.

"Hey, I would like to proselytize you to the party this weekend." :D

I think you should keep in mind that YOU are the one that posted the link to my forum, not me. Maybe you're "proselytizing" on my behalf. :p

And no wonder it seems quieter around here. :)

Wait... wasn't your whole argument that there's been no change in the traffic in this forum? ...
