I might overreact a bit because I don't want to be like some people are about their almighty Apple products. :sorry:

I purposely bought a Zune because of my hatered of Apple.

OK - I'm going to fling another name into the camera game

Fuji - their bridge cameras are actually very very good , and can be used totally manually - I've heard many of my contacts [ who don't actually use them ] praising them.

Me - I'm a PENTAX user :) and I love my K-x

I learned on a completely manual Pentax K-1000 film camera in the early 90's. That thing was a dinosaur, but it taught me how to do good work.

They are still great cameras and I have mates still shooting with really old lenses

I only use 3 lenses - the 18-55 DA L kit lens , a new DA 35mm F2.4 L and a Tamron 18-250. Can't afford any more :( but these cover all that I do very nicely

Do let us know how your chrismation boded. Enquiring minds wish to know. :holy:

Very surreal. I don't think I have processed it all yet. I am glad to finally be home, so to speak. It has been a long time coming, and I feel very peaceful about it all. To make it even more special, I was welcomed into the Cathedral by new iconography on the ceiling (the miracles and parables of Christ). They aren't quite finished, but they look amazing. Hopefully I'll be able to get some pics eventually to share with you all.

BTW, if you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them! :)

I have a Tamron 11-18, Tamron 28-300 and a Tamron 90mm 2.8 prime that I use. I also have a Nikkor 50mm 1.4 manual, but I am going to want to trade that for an AF 1.4 50mm as soon as possible. I do have a Tamron 18-35, but am looking to sell that one and I just sold my old Tamron 28-200.

Pentax makes great cameras! The Pentax K-5 looks very nice.. and similar in features to my 7D (similar price tag too). And quantity of lenses doesn't matter as much as quality... and of course the ability to use them. =) Love your water picture!

I've got a lot of learning for this ultra wide angle. It's incredibly easy to take a boring picture with such a wide angle. It's also incredibly easy to end up with your feet in the bottom of the frame. ^_^

I'm glad folk seem to appreciate Pentax gear :)

I enjoy mine - and when I'm travelling I'll admit that I just take the Tamron 18-250 with me since it more or less covers everything I take on holidays . At home the new 35mm is being used as a walk about lens and it's pretty discreet in use - I got that shortly after they came out last year - actually sold my DA 40mm Ltd pancake lens , 'cos it was just too small for my hands to get off and on easily [ some problems with sensation and dexterity ] and made enough money from that to buy the split new 35mm and a new camera bag [ Tamrac rally ]

Welcome home, Ortho_cat :)

I'm exhausted. No more spoons left, and I still have to make dinner. I woke up and my back hurt - when I got up that just turned to radiating pain of the kind you only have when you have a terrible flu...or ME :( Proceeded to have a fight with Andrew (we made up, sort of) and stagger home with bags that felt like lead and then found out that sister won't be home until very late so had to go out into the freezing wind again to catch a bus (involves hills) to the store so I can get stuff to make soup and came home again.

I have to make dinner, but I think I'll have a nap first...today SUCKS.

WARNING: RANT AHEAD.

I'm in a bit of a funk and a slump all at once.

Its not like enough things are going on as it is with the stress of penny-pinching for my vacation to Miami, stress of school issues, stress of being made a trainer at work (and the opposition with it), stress of normal church-y politics which make no sense, stress of being compared to my brother A LOT because he's getting his life together with joining the Navy and blah blah blah "when are YOU going to get YOUR life together" bull from the parents, stress of cat dieing, stress from worrying about how I'll get to any 4-year university in the area because the private ones are expensive and the public ones are favoring out of state students, stress of living at home with retired parents, stress from the probable-soon-to-be-fallout of more church-y politics (but this one was out of obedience), stress of coworkers constantly nagging "why haven't you found a girlfriend yet", stress from the family on the other side of the state of "when will you visit", stress from all the normal everyday bull and what happens?

One of our elders in the church went to the Lord Sunday morning. He had a stroke on Wed/Thurs, went into a coma and reposed. It is his time to go, yes, but he was like a grandfather to me. We bonded over a common German heritage and Orthodoxy. He was the one who taught me "Christ is Risen! Indeed..." in German; correctly. He had a great dry, yet witty sense of humor and never raised his voice to a soul. He almost always welcomed new people to the church. He will be missed. He is already missed. I was fortunate to be able to visit him in the hospital, I spoke some German to him, visited with his wife and son who were also there, and I said goodbye.

I can handle being in a bit of an emotional slump. I can handle being in a bit of a funk. I can not handle both at once very well. I can not handle both at once with all of this going on very well either. I haven't been on a vacation in years, or had a break from work for longer than two weeks and the thought of actually being able to relax from most of this is just... almost incomprehensible.

As for the issues with the priest and matushka not treating my family correctly; that is in the process of being dealt with very soon. In a nutshell, my spiritual father said to write the bishop, I did (four pages on Word double-spaced and then copy/pasted to email) and actually had a response within the hour. Lucky! But I just hope that the fallout from that, if there is any, will not be too bad and will not effect my family.

I am tired. I want to be on vacation so much right now, but it's two and a half weeks away!

:argh::argh::argh::argh::argh:

[/rant]

Okay, I feel a lot better now :)

EC - having let that lot escape - you must be feeling a whole lot lighter :)

Hang in there - and I'm sorry about the german speaking gentleman in your Church - Eternal Memory !

It always hurts when something like that happens , and on top of everything else - not easy .
