  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you believe basalt rock is sedimentary?

No. Its origins are volcanic. Sedimentary rocks are formed by particles which have eroded from land, carried down by rivers and deposited in the sea for the large majority of sedimentary rocks. Or in the case of limestones and chalk, formed by living creatures, which form calcium carbonate in their bodies to form those formations and are also classed as sedimentary rock.

Then I'll take your post with a grain of soot.

Hutton's Unconformity is not proof, since it is based on basalt being sedimentary rock (Neptunism?).

I think you misread the article. Neptunism was disproved.

Well, I've read it an I don't get it. So why don't you just explain it to me.

Good morning Inan3,
Basically, an unconformity is an outcrop of 2 different rock types. The older rock would have been uplifted and tilted and eroded as it would be on the surface and then lowered again due to movements in the earth's crust. A new rock would have been laid down on top (in this case, old red sandstone when the UK would have been desert), and where the 2 different rock types join, this is called an unconformity. There many, many examples of them world wide and is proof that geological processes happen continuously and because of uplift, erosion, loering deposit of different rock, uplift again and erosion to expose these rocks took a really long time!

I have no proof heaven exists but wouldn't you rather take our word for it and live life according to God or just leave it up to chance and end up in Hell. You can't have a heaven without a hell darling. I hope to meet my loved ones in heaven.
The problem with that is the assumption that you've backed the right horse.

Assuming your religion is the correct one.

You can't have a heaven without a hell darling.

Sure you can, if you've an omnipotent god doing the creating.

You have Heaven or Hell. What horse do you want to back?

Heaven is obviously the best, so I should become Muslim, right? I don't want Allah to send me to hell if I convert to Christianity.

Allah is the name given to the uncaused cause. God elsewhere. Different names, same thing.

But I could also be trapped in this mortal life forever unless I'm a good person through enough incarnations to achieve Nirvana. Of course, not believing this could cause me to be born as a worm or a slug in my next life.

I could have to die gloriously in battle to be taken up to Asgard by beautiful valkyries.

Or I could have my heart weighed by Osiris against one of Ma'at's feathers.

The list goes on, why should I pick your particular brand of crazy?

This merely depicts the heavenly man vs the animal nature and not an actual slug.

2 Peter 2:12- "But these men blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like brute beasts, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like beasts they too will perish."
I could have to die gloriously in battle to be taken up to Asgard by beautiful valkyries.
Nothing there again.
Or I could have my heart weighed by Osiris against one of Ma'at's feathers.
This is merely depicting judgment.

Or on that logic, why should he pick your particular "brand of crazy" which outlines a belief that heaven is a brand of crazy?
