  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you agree that christians should keep the 10 Commandments? (4)

The righteous (those who trust in Christ and His finished work on the cross) do not negate THE law...THE law is fulfilled in them.

THE law is negated when a person, who believes that he must keep THE law in order to perfect his salvation does not keep it COMPLETELY and PERFECTLY according to James 2:10

You profess to be a Baptist, and I often see stone monuments of the 10 Commandments in front of Baptist churches and yet you say that we don't have to obey the 10 Commandments? How does that make any sense at all? That basically does away with God's Holy Law, lets men and women feel that they can go on sinning with impunity!

Nope scratch doesn't go by feelings on anything. It always get him in trouble. Yep I gotta admit I'm emotional and my last emotional mistake cost me 10 G hard stuff. It also keeps me from being manipulated.
Only the Holy Spirit brings on convictions and then condemnation when the rebellion against His Word erupts in the heart of the hearer.

I'm not the least bit suprised. And you have my regrets. Now if you wish to state what your problem is I might be of assistance.
You see it's not a problem of mine. It is you, you continue to put things and interpretations to the word that is completely foreign to the text. Coming up with ideas that are not of God.

I love the word of God. It is simply beautiful. It hurts tremendously to see violence done to it by ideas that are projected by us Christians. All of us are not correct in our view and understanding, just can not be. But just one of us is correct. Just one. One view that is. Satan was leading the priest in Jesus' day, and before His day and certainly has continued since then. Are we sure that we can stand the full test of our beliefs before God, as the pain of death. 100% certain like the Jews or like Christ. Which side does our belief about the law place us?

This isn't a matter of "My view is correct and yours is incorrect"..what it all boils down to is "What saith the Lord?"

In the last 30+ years I have been to many Baptist Churches and not seen one with the 10 commandments in stone in front of them.

Just where are these Churches with the 10 Commandments in stone? Can you name a few?

*edited to add: Our Church has no such monuments of stone on its property.

The question was concerning the claim that the poster "often" passed "Baptist Churches" that had the commandments erected.

Your first link was to a Church that was not Baptist, and thus does not answer the question.

Your second link was to a company that sold the stones, and also does not apply.

I did find one Baptist Church in Illinois that had them erected, but that was the only one Baptist Church I could find with them.

Perhaps the poster is driving past the same Church several times?

Where did the law come from? Where does the Spirit come from? Is God in opposition to Himself? Is the Spirit only given after Christ? Why does the scriptures state that men where moved by the Spirit God.
2 Tim 3: 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
The Law came from God to the Isrealites. The Spirit is Part of the Godhead. :) Being born again came from Christ. He takes our heart of stone and makes it new.. Gods Spirit has always been with His people. Since Christ now His Spirit lives in His people and there is no more temple to go to worship at for we are the Temple.

Because they are trying to get in by some other way and are in reality theives and robbers - John 10:1.

They were trying to get in another way. These are individuals who thought they were doing God's will but in actuality were not.

Yup!

You don't get it and you've shown that you've not taken serious time to study the reason for the sanctuary or it's services. The reason why Christ died was because the law required it. If the law could be amended then His death would not have been necessary. He, being God after all, would have simply changed up the law to allow for provision for sin to come about another way.

Christ's death was not meant to do away with the ten commandments. His death was meant to fulfill the penalty of the law which all of us are worthy of.
