  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you agree that Christians should obey all 613 commandments?

It shouldn't be so hard to name one that is impossible to keep.
You're great at trying to turn the tables, not gonna happen.
Is that with or w/o tablecloths :)

Lazarus and the Rich Man - Here a little, there a little - Commentary

Romans 11:9 And David is saying 'let be being become! the Table of them into a trap and into a mesh and into a snare and into a recompense to them'.
[Psalm 69:22/Daniel 11:9]

Luke 16:21 and yearning to be satisfied from the crumbs, the-ones falling from the Table of the Rich-one, but also the dogs coming licked the sores of him

We are under Grace, not under the Law. We are not required to follow the Law. It is an impossibel task to do so anyway, other wise they would not have had to pick their perfect lamb to take to the temple to be salughtered. As far as the 10 commandments, did Jesus not condense those into only 2?

God bless

But aren't we supposed to abstain from works of the flesh while relying on Grace?

Eph 4:24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Eph 4:28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.

Eph 4:19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
Eph 4:20But ye have not so learned Christ;

Ro 13:9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

So we're not under the law Rom 6:14 and 15 two verses in a row. We[re delivered from the law Rom 7:6. Jesus is the end of the law for righteousness Rom 10:4. The law was until John LK 16:16. We're to throw the law out Gal 4:30.

Why should we bother with the law?

Because works of the flesh are not of the holy Spirit?

Galatians is a good read concerning that ;)

Book of Galatian verse by verse

Young) Galatians 2:16 having known also that a man is not declared righteous by works of law, if not through the faith of Jesus Christ, also we in Christ Jesus did believe, that we might be declared righteous by the faith of Christ, and not by works of law, wherefore declared righteous by works of law shall be no flesh.'

Young) Galatians 5:19 And manifest also are the works of the flesh, which are: Adultery, whoredom, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20 idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, strifes, emulations, wraths, rivalries, dissensions, sects,
21 envyings, murders, drunkennesses, revellings, and such like, of which I tell you before, as I also said before,
that those doing such things the kingdom of God shall not inherit.

Yes that about covers it except one thing, some seem to suggest that because we are free it doesn't matter what we do. Some seem to suggest that we don't need gods pesky laws of holy morality any longer because the Holy Spirit will magically whisper in our ear and tell us what is correct to god concerning holiness. Some think the law of murder went out the door with circumcision. Paul says different, he says that we shouldn't use grace as an excuse to sin. Paul quotes the 10 cs when talking about "love God and neighbor' and so do I.

Perhaps you should discuss that with the Jews, since 12 of their tribes are mentioned in Revelation :)

Luke 18:20 The commandments thou have known, no thou should be committing adultery, no thou should be murdering, no thou should be stealing, no thou should be bearing false witness. Be honouring thy father and thy mother.

Matthew 23:31 So as ye are testifying to yourselves, that sons ye are of the ones murdering the prophets;

Revelation 9:21 And not they reform/repent out of their murders, nor out from their sorceries.......
[Luke 18:20/James 9:21]

I put this one together using reftagger. I copied it from Wiki but added the function of reftagger. Hover your mouse over each verse citation to read it without clicking it. Very educational and should be wonderful for those who wish to wallow in the Law...

613 Laws of the Old Testament
I've never heard of 613 commandments. Was reading your link, going down the long list. Quit after a while and thought to myself, "how can anybody remember all of that?" I did notice this was for the Jews and the OT laws, right? Anyhow, sorry for the ignorance on this topic. As I said before, it's news to me. :sorry:

The only law we have is to love. Does this include hippy love? The Hippies took acid, had orgies and didn't consider Gods son but they loved one another. Isn't Gods definition of love different than that of the world? Doesn't the 10 Cs help us define Gods love? And don't we have an obligation to be holy? And doesn't the law also help us define what is Holy?

It seems a bit more complicated than just throwing out the law and saying "i love you" doesn't it?

Works of the flesh are not allowed under the NC. The law defines works of the flesh.
What kinds of works of the flesh? As I understand it, the mentioning of the flesh in the Bible has more than one meaning. :)

No. And theres no reason to assume i do. The bible defines works of flesh and says we should not do them under the NC

Oh, ok. Thank you for clarifying what you meant. :)

Works of the flesh have never been "allowed" by God during any era.

Paul's usage of the term "flesh" is not equal to the body. Paul's usage of "flesh" has to do with man's works devoid of the Spirit of God. The godly have had the help of God's Spirit in all eras, and whatever they did in faith would not qualify as a "work of the flesh".

Obeying the Law is not works of the flesh unless it is doing it according to the letter rather than in living faith
