Where does oil come from?

There is something that has been bothering me for a while. Where does all the oil come from that we burn up in our cars? Where does all the natural gas come from that we heat our homes with? I remember maybe 30 years ago, they were worried that there was only going to be enough natural gas to heat our homes up to about the year 2010. Then the experts were saying we may have to develop some other form of energy to heat our home with. Yet I do not hear anything about it now. Gas is expensive, but there seems to be enough of it.

If God created this world 6000 years ago, and then the flood came along 4300 years ago. Could that produce enough natural gas and oil in 1700 years to provide us with all that we use today?

If you took a dinosour and converted him into oil. How much oil would that produce? Enough to fill up my gas tank?

I think they keep finding new sources of oil and gas. or it could be the estimates were off in the first place.

Athabasca Oils sands were formed from what was once a river delta.

There would be no oil sands if it weren’t for mixing sand reservoir and oil migration.

Oil was originally organic.

Scientists believe oil is formed when plants and animals died & sank to the bottom of ancient seas.

Others believe that heat, pressure, time and a lack of oxygen was enough to produce oil, Others believe that bacteria, chemical reactions and natural radioactivity of the earth play a role.

Oil sands are found all over the world, there are 16 major oil sands deposits, 2 of the largest are Athabasca Oil sands in Alberta and Orinco River deposits in Venezula, also in Melville Island, Peace River, Wabasca and Cold Lake.

No two oil sands are exactly the same.

Supposedly the oil sands here in ALberta have 7 times the amount of oil found in Saudi Arabia. Much of that is not recoverable with current technology, but then again it only became profitable to process any synthetic crude from the oil in recent years.

Doubt this immensely because one barrel of crude currently sells for about $40 and a full tank for my SUV costs about $44, even here in CA with the highest prices in the country. I find it unreasonable to believe that in the process of refining and the various intermediaries on the way from crude to gas are so efficient as to be a NEGATIVE on the cost of the gasoline ($80 fr 2 barrels being equal to $44 for one tank).

I know that rubbing alcohol is a by product. That is why you can buy that stuff for about 33 cents a bottle. Sometimes I use it to clean with, because it is so cheap.

I am not sure that it is true that Rubbing Alcohol is a Petroleum Product. I believe it is a wood product actually. Though acetone and heavier cleaners come from oil. Petroleum is responsible for just about every type of Plastic we use: buckets, bottles, containers, mats, plastic bags, tires for cars, bikes, scooters and even skateboards. Not to mention Vaseline (Petroleum Jelly). We won't even go into the industrial aspects and building materials. suffice it to say if we don't make it out of Glass, rock, wood, metal, air, or water, we probably make it out of oil.

I have always heard it comes from the decomposition of living things. I have also heard that this means dinosaur remains. I think this is why it is called Fossil fuels? Someone correct me if I am wrong I am no Geology expert but I remember hearing this quite a few times along the way.

Actually, I believe crude oil is derived from ancient plant matter (and perhaps some photosynthesizing ocean-born organisms)...not dinosaur remains. In fact, I believe it would take the equivelent of several hectares of plant matter to produce 1 litre of octane. Due to the relative abundance of oil, we can see that the deposits had to represent plant matter that was buried in layers over an extremely long period of time...yet more evidence of an old earth.

Gas and oil are 'easter eggs'.

In my opinion, God placed gas and oil reserves in the ground, knowing we would need them in 6000 years.

In addition, we will need them to rebuild the earth after the Tribulation.

It's like when He placed copper and zinc in the ground, so the Israelites could use them in the future.

Eww. That's not a very smart thing to do... If we can use it all up now before having a change to build a post-revelation utopia, then that sort of plan is far from fool-proof.
