  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

have time??? own a television or computer...have plenty of time...waste 6-8 hours every day... 15 minutes a day will take you cover to cover in the bible every 6-8 months
Seek FIRST the kingdom of God...
Man I hope folks have more than 15 minutes a day to learn more about our God.
Thanks for the reminder.
bible says, about the bible... except born again, spirit filled, and have a minister... how can one hear and understand the word of God
[/QUOTE]
Actually, you don't need a minister to understand God's word...

Actually, you don't need a minister to understand God's word...

that's not biblical...

26Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Go south to the road—the desert road—that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” 27So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopiand eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians. This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship, 28and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the book of Isaiah the prophet. 29The Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.”
30Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked.
31“How can I,” he said, “unless someone explains it to me?” So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.
32The eunuch was reading this passage of Scripture:
“He was led like a sheep to the slaughter,
and as a lamb before the shearer is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.
33In his humiliation he was deprived of justice.
Who can speak of his descendants?
For his life was taken from the earth.”e
34The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?” 35Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.
36As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. Why shouldn’t I be baptized?”f 38And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him. 39When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing. 40Philip, however, appeared at Azotus and traveled about, preaching the gospel in all the towns until he reached Caesarea.

In this case, Philip represents tradition, where the eunuch reading Isaiah aloud represents sola scriptura. If only other sola scripturians would be as honest as he was.

Sorry but she is right. It is The Holy Spirit within us that shall lead us into all truth. Only GOD is trustworthy, not men.

Did you read the above passage? Why didn't God send down his Holy Spirit to convince the eunuch instead of sending Philip to interpret it for him, then?

Please provide me with scriptural citations which tell us to read and interpret scripture by ourselves without instruction. I already provided one to the contary.

It may help to keep in mind the difference between spiritual and carnal understanding. IOW, the eunich hadn't yet been born again, so was he able to understand?

I am aware of this story.
They do not represent what you think though.
The difference in them was that one was Spirit filled and one was not.
(besides the other obvious differences)

Then why did Paul have to explain for us what some OT scriptures were hinting at?

Are there not offices of leadership in the church?
Not only that but there are different levels of understanding and maturity in
Christ... There are "ministers" (we're ALL able ministers) that know way less
about the kingdom than some of the GT posters..
(No, i didn't say "posers" :p)

Glad you're back Arbiter

There's nothing wrong with instruction if it's needed.
That's why some are teachers and some are pastors
and some are evangelists... but it's GOD using each
member to bless the entire church that the entire
church might be equipped to go then and do the same
as God fills and chooses and places and calls ... etc.

IOW, you could one day be the teacher to the one who
is today YOUR teacher...
But certainly we can all read and study Scripture and
for the most part, we understand it without a Phillip.

According to protestants, the Word of God is the Written Word preached unto others. So the man's carnal mind would have been no better off whether it's God's Word Written being self read, or Paul preaching it to him.
The truth of the matter is, that Paul was put there to encounter this man and put him on the right track with a correct interpretation he understood, that he'd either accept or reject.

The truth of the matter is, that Paul was put there for a reason to encounter this man and that was to put him on the right track with a correct interpretation that he understood and would either accept or reject.

That's really sorta funny ^_^

(it was Philip, not Paul)

Yep, you're also right about that. When folks say, I am of Peter, we immediately know that scripture says, they're carnal, babies in Christ.

Then you should not read the Bible for man's hand wrote it ;) How do you know it was God inspired? And you are in contradiction here..if you are leaded by the Holy Spirit how come you think it is ONLY you and not others? The Holy Spirit works in ALL men or not? It only works in the ones YOU trust ;)

I do not understand this ... So the Holy Spirit works within us but .....at the same time men are not trustworthy...:confused::confused: oh my...

Sorry, but GOD's written word is divinely breathed through man,...

Act 4:24 And they, when they heard it, lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, O Lord, thou that didst make the heaven and the earth and the sea, and all that in them is:

Act 4:25 who by the Holy Ghost, by the mouth of our father David thy servant, didst say, Why did the Gentiles rage, And the peoples imagine vain things?

There are no contradictions within it. There may be some historical inaccuracies in places, but no contradictions that render it's teachings void.

And no, mankind is not trustworthy. If it is not GOD operating through that person to HIS benefit, then it is carnal, period.
