Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Dying means a lot to folks like you and me -- for this "all powerful being," it was a three-day inconveninece. And what's three days next to eternity?

If He's so interested in showing His love, he'd do better by giving something of value to Him.

If I give a five-dollar bill to a homeless man, I've given him something he values, but means little to me -- do I expect or deserve his worship?

Worship, piety, blind faith, death, revenge, punishment, blood, etc... Why are Christians so obsessed with these things?

And that would be what more than the sacrifice of his Son Jesus?

Those who agree and believe with what the Bible says get it.
Those who disagree and disbelieve with what the Bible says don't get it.

Sorry for what seems like a simple answer, but its that simple.

We can discus specific details if you wish. But you have to give me a example.

Ok -- how about people who believe that the Bible is 100% historically accurate when it clearly is not?

They believe, but they're not getting it.

Christians who believe in evolution is fine versus those who don't.
Christians who think abortion is fine versus those who don't.
Christians who believe contraception is bad versus those who don't.
Christians who think they should corporally hurt themselves versus those who don't.
Christians who think that Noah's flood was global versus those who don't.
Christians who think that Mary of Magdalene was a prostitute versus those who don't.
Christians who think the OT laws should still be followed versus those who don't.

Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.

Now, let me warn you that I am not looking for verses that show me how one of those sides is correct and the other one isn't. I don't care about your interpretation or your verses that justify it. I want to know HOW it is that you can tell which interpretation is correct. How do you know that YOUR interpretations are inspired versus those who disagree with you.

An example. I gave you one. Check your blessings.

It`s easy. Click on the little [check] button at the top right on the page, where your blessings are shown. You will get a list of all the blessings you received or gave.

You will notice that you are now richer by 1.000.000 blessings, which came to you with the comment: "A free gift... no strings attached. I gave, you received... no action on your part necessary."

You might not even have noticed it, if not for my reminder. I know I wouldn´t... I never check for blessings.

So there you have it... a gift that you got without you having to "receive" it.

I can do it. It's easy.

Why can't the all powerful God?

Sacrifice? Is God currently without His Son?

No, wait, there he is -- sitting at the right hand of the Father; right where he was before.

It seems you're confusing "sacrifice" with "temporary loan" -- 33 years, give or take.

And again, 33 years is pretty impressive for folks like you and me -- but what's 33 years next to eternity?

Well I don't want the blessings. You forced them on me. God offers His. I will give you back the blessings if I can figure out how. I don't need them Im good without them.

So there is a example of a person rejecting the free gift.

Christians who think that Mary of Magdalene was a prostitute versus those who don't.

In all fairness, this one is easy to explain: Pope Gregory the Great gave a speech in AD 591 where he conflated Mary of Bethany with Mary Magdeline.

An honest mistake -- there are several "Marys" referred to in the Bible, and most believers follow the path of least resistance by assuming they're all the same woman.

Ah, so you need to take action to get rid of the gift!

Well, I never did so. I don´t believe I got a gift. That is a difference.

If you want to disbelieve that I send you one million blessings... I am fine with it. You won´t feel my wrath, I promise.

But they are there.... I send, you got. You have got!

What you do with my gift is of no concern for me. It was a small sacrifice for me in order to show you the difference between disbelief and rejection.

You missed the point. He's trying to show you that a free gift has no strings attached. He didn't say "take my blessings or suffer." If God's gift really is free, then why does he punish people who don't take it? That's just scaring and bullying people into taking his "free gift." Reminds me of a mobster offering "protection" to business owners.

Well, but that would make my point. Is the way to see which Christians are truly inspired through evidence, historical or otherwise?

You lack spiritual understanding. You don't understand His position. One day you will.

Nathan, Read the book of John. One more time. Get a King James Bible.

That is a good point... it just wasn´t my point.

My point - that he also missed - is that you don´t need to accept nor acknowledge a gift in order to be given it.

In fact, I just gave him another gift. Completely free, absolutely no strings attached. I gave, he got.

I wonder if he will figure out how to reject or return that gift!

Well, the Gospels are the last place to look for historical evidence -- it simply wasn't written that way. It's liturgical, not historical.

Fine. So God made a temporary sacrifice of three days. Can I make a temporary sacrifice of three days and call it even?

The Pope is not a Bible believer or a Christian.

You haven't responded to the examples you requested. So, I'll repost here:
Christians who believe in evolution is fine versus those who don't.
Christians who think abortion is fine versus those who don't.
Christians who believe contraception is bad versus those who don't.
Christians who think they should corporally hurt themselves versus those who don't.
