  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Indeed it will. :ebil:

1 Samuel 15:22 Samuel said,
"Has the LORD as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices
As in obeying the voice of the LORD?
Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice,
And to heed than the fat of rams.

It's quite clear that keeping the written commandments from God are less important to God than keeping the direct, personal commandments from God.

Rom. 8:14 For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

John 4:23 "But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.

The true Sabbath, the Sabbath God wants us to keep, is in actuality, worshiping God 24/7. That is the true observance of the Sabbath.

I think you missed the mark on this all together. The two are not contrasted against each other.

The point is about observing 'without' a contrite heart. You would understand it better in this term maybe? That, works without faith is vanity.

It's the counterpart to 'faith without works is dead', not faith at all. Because you have not proved it by your deeds.

Samuel was identifying, "what good would it do for you to sacrifice and observe the commands of God, if you don't obey him in your heart?" What good would going to church and raising my arms and praying all the liturgical prayers, staying after and helping those with needs, offer time to do chores around the sanctuary, and then get in my car while I speed and run red lights and curse out my window at others, cutting them off. All the while displaying a fish on my car.

THAT would be an example of what Samuel the prophet was talking to Israel about. Doing the things of God but treating Gods children with contempt and hatred.

Like offering the word of Salvation and the Good News to those who need it, but lording yourself over them in an ungodly way. What good would it do to shove the message of the Lord down someones throat and say, YOU MUST eat or you will die.... as they fight you tooth and nail because your oversteping your authority and bounds. Your love is devoid in the giving of the message.

THIS is the point of Samuels statement.

Or would you really teach others that a Prophet of God was telling Gods children it was worthless to observe the Torah given by God?

You'd think this would end the Sabbath debate once and for all:

Col 2:16 Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day.

When Scripture point blank tells you to do as you feel led & to let others do the same, you would think that settles it. But...obviously not....

Moreover when Scripture commands you not to judge anyone else regarding these festivals and days, you would think that woud settle it. Isn't our fallen nature wonderful?
