  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

According to the Faith that you have been taught...

EDIT TO ADD:
On every Lord's Day—his special day (Literally, "On every Lord's Day of the Lord.") —come together and break bread and give thanks, first confessing your sins so that your sacrifice may be pure. Anyone at variance with his neighbor must not join you, until they are reconciled, lest your sacrifice be defiled. For it was of this sacrifice that the Lord said, "Always and everywhere offer me a pure sacrifice; for I am a great King, says the Lord, and my name is marveled at by the nations."
EDIT END:

The Lord's Day is Saturday.

or

The Lord's Day is Sunday.

Forgive me...

I think this is the wrong question. No one but SDA's say that the Lord's Day is Saturday. The issue on which there is debate is when the Sabbath is. Some Protestants will say Saturday, and distinguish the Lord's Day from the Sabbath. Others say that the Lord's Day is a Christian Sabbath, and thus apply the Sabbath rules to Sunday (possibly in some Christian adaptation).

Even the Reformed tradition is split on this. Calvin said the Sabbath is Saturday, and the Lord's Day is a free celebration. The Westminster Confession calls the Lord's Day the Christian Sabbath, and the churches that follow it tend to apply Sabbath rules to the Lord's Day. Even my own pastor, who normally follows Calvin more than Westminster, speaks of Sunday as the Sabbath. Personally, I don't consider the Lord's Day to be the Sabbath. (I also don't think we absolutely have to worship on Sunday.)

What happened to today is the day the Lord has made?

The Lord did make every day, but "the Lord's Day" that we see mentioned in the writings of the ECFs is Sunday. It is the weekly celebration of a little Pascha.... the Resurrection of Christ.

According to the Faith that I received, and according to the pastors :preach: and priests :liturgy: who taught me, the Sabbath is Saturday and the Lord's Day is Sunday (and a case can be made for Lord's Day observation beginning at sundown on Saturday night).

Sorry, but that's not going to be part of the answer set.

I want to know what day the Apostles meant when they said "The Lord's Day".

Me too. And the EO does begin its Lord's Day celebration on Saturday night (the hymns for Vespers correspond to the following day's feast, so our Saturday Vesper hymns are the beginning of the celebration of Sunday's Liturgy).

That we know for certain is only John.

Rev. 1:10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,

Some think he meant Sunday. Others think he meant Saturday. Others think it is everyday.

How would that read then?

"I was in the Spirit every day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,"

Forgive me...

I hear ya. I deleted before posting the part about 1000 years as a day. IOW, it's a revelation book, eh? Just make sure you start from the right day ;).

Would also add that others tie it to "day of the Lord" OT stuff, but because of grammar rules couldn't explicitely say the exact same thing.

After some few hundred years believe the Church settled on the idea that Lord's Day meant Sunday. Probably as a reaction against things, however.

Shouldn't the question be "According to the Bible, what day is the Lord's day?"?

I would say Saturday and I'm not a SDA.

The Lord's Day is every day. the Sabbath was not a day that was set aside for the owrship of God; it was a day set aside for rest. If the observant Jew needed to make a presentation (usually involving a sacrifice of some kind) in the temple, he would make that presentation on one of the other six days in the week, rather than on the Sabbath. It would have been illegal for him to have made a journey of any consequence on that day, and it would also have been illegal for him to have been carrying or leading the sacrificial animal on that day.

I'm sorry, but I don't know what that "bZZZZZZ" means.

What day do you think is the Lord's day and why does it matter to you?

It is Sunday.

Because the Apostles taught it that way.

Forgive me...
