We all can agree (save for the severely color blind) that this text is red.

We can also similarly agree that this text is blue.

If we have red text and decide to change it by just a small amount, the change might be barely noticeable, but still a very small change. This, we will call our micro-evolution. Every word up to now can be considered red, with very minute changes in the hue. If I keep typing long enough, would anyone be able to tell me, just by looking, at which word or letter is this post no longer red, but actually purple or blue? All this micro-evolution keeps occurring in the text, with it's tiny changes in hue, but ultimately, I end up with a completely different color. It's actually the difference between what one would consider red and what one would consider purple (or a whole new species, in this analogy) which is macro-evolution. See, the common misunderstanding is, that macro-evolution means a dog being a direct offspring of some other different canine-like species, or even more stupidly, a cat coming from a dog. Well, that's not what macro-evolution is. There is really only one distinction between micro-evolution and macro-evolution, and it's the same distinction between their prefixes: micro and macro. Just like if something is microscopic or if something is macroscopic. Microscopic usually requires a microscope to see it because it's so small, but the macroscopic are things large enough to be seen by the common human eye. However, things of both size are completely visible and plainly exist, and there are many things in this universe between both general sizes. So as you read this, can you tell me the first word here that is blue, and not purple? After all, every change in color since the first word in this paragraph has only micro-evolved from the color next to it, but we've managed to macro-evolve through 2 colors. This, hopefully, will illustrate how it's illogical to believe that macro-evolution doesn't happen, even given time for enough micro-evolution to occur.

So tell me -- what was the first purple word in the block of text above? What's the first blue word? Remember, if macro-evolution simply can not happen then you're saying the words you are reading now are still red.

I do not know if you came up with that or found it somewhere but thats genius.

Thought it up, and used Excel to get all the little color codes in there. lol Hopefully this gets the point across. It cost me my lunch hour.

I would gladly answer if this program would show me it's html.

Most browers, it's View -> Source (code)

If you click quote on the OP, you can see the bbcode.

Where I think you're going with this might actually add more depth to the analogy. The bbcode for each color would represent the genome. Take note how the numbers for the colors only change by 1 or 2 each time.

Once you establish where you draw the line between colors, and give them names, you're now committing what is called "taxonomy". ;)

Would be simpler that you used the 1 penny per day routine. That way I won't get a headache from trying to find the first blue word.

Well to be 100% accurate :) you don't have any text assigned to 0000ff tell you're done with the "Block of Text Above" and you haven't defined "Purple"

The First Word set to "0000FF" is "We" then no more tell "So"
Now if we use Purple at 50% Red, 50% Blue it would be "the "

So what color is that first time the word "change" appears? Though it has a different code than "we", it's still red isn't it? Do you think that you and I might have identical DNA? We are the same species after all, but most likely not descendant from the same grandparents. Even if we were, and you were my cousin, would your DNA be the same as mine?

The Color is #e90017, but it's not #FF0000
We have similar but not 100% Identical DNA. (Unless I've got an identical twin I don't know about, and I can't rule that out 100%)

Could you put that in a textonomic tree for me please?

After all, while claiming the lines are so vague as to be indistinguishable, you guys seem to have a lot of branches and tees at specific places.

I could still continue the analogy to represent ancestry by starting another thread and start with the same color, but end up with a color other than blue.... say, yellow. Yellow and blue having come from a common ancestor (red), but evolving into different colors as a result of being in two different environments...

Or I could made the other thread go from red to purple, but then to orange... but the analogy of this thread isn't ancestry, it's to define what macro-evolution actually is.

The common creationist will say they accept that there is micro-evolution (slightly varying shades of red), but not macro-evolution (from red to blue). The OP illustrates it better for those who are having difficulty understanding. Both are evolution, just on different scales.

For all intents and purposes, both words on either side of any word you chose in the OP are the same color (with a slight variation like all living things), yet you still end up going from red to blue.

Honestly, if this can't illustrate macro-evolution for anyone here, then there's really no hope for them to understand (because I can't think of a more simple and visual way to illustrate it on a web forum), whether they choose to accept it or not.
