Does a new rosary have to blessed by a priest, before it can be prayed with or can I bless my own rosary? What happens if the rosary CAN'T be blessed? Can I pray with a rosary that hasn't been blessed?

Does a new rosary have to blessed by a priest, before it can be prayed with? What happens if the rosary CAN'T be blessed?
Yes, you should have your rosary blessed by a priest, but you can still use it until you get it blessed. The following is a little information as to why we should have such items blessed.
What is a Sacramental?
Sacramentals are those rites, actions (such as prayers) and objects (rosary) which the Church uses to obtain for us, from God, spiritual and temporal favors. Several common examples of blessed objects which are sacraments would be holy water, rosaries, the brown scapular, crucifixes, etc. They are called sacramentals because in some way they resemble the Sacraments. What makes them very special is that they have the blessing of the priest.
One of the most remarkable effects of sacramentals is the virtue to drive away evil spirits whose mysterious and baleful operations affect sometimes the physical activity of man. To combat this occult power the Church has recourse to exorcism, and sacramentals" (The Catholic Encyclopedia., 1913, VXIII, p. 293).
These blessed objects, If used in accordance with the mind of the Church, are the means of receiving actual grace to do good and avoid evil, of protection of soul and body, and the remission of venial sin.
Every Catholic should carry a rosary with him/her, and wear a scapular. Also, every Catholic home should display images of Our Lord, and Our Lady, and have a crucifix on the wall.
Hope this helps.

Isn't it true that anyone can bless an ordinary object, e.g. a car, but a priests blessings are to be preferred?
