  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The very best icon we need to post is the one painted by St Luke - the Gospel writer.
This one reminds me of that one - but there have been many variations...
But the one St Luke made - as a way to show the Gospel in painting [for the illiterate] has Jesus with His hand in hers...
With one angel holding His cross....i cant see if this one has that - pardon if i didnt recognize it.

Reposting psalms - lest anyone think i have been remiss in showing the Queen on the right hand of the Lord...

1Psalms 44:10
The daughters of kings have delighted thee in thy glory. The queen stood on thy right hand, in gilded clothing; surrounded with variety.

What I'm trying to say is that there is no causal connection between the pagan goddess who was called a queen of heaven and the Virgin Mary being called queen of heaven. It's not as if people read that verse and then used it as a basis to call Mary queen of heaven so they could blend the traits of the two together. Queen is a pretty common title. Heaven is a place thats talked about fairly often in a variety of religions.

Isn't that 45:9? Kings' daughters [were] among thy honourable women: upon thy right hand did stand the queen in gold of Ophir.

So Jesus is on the right hand of the Father and the queen is at His right hand. That's your view?

When did people begin calling Mary the queen of heaven? What's the history?

I'm not sure when the term was first used but its been around in the hymnography of the Church from early on (not so much queen of heaven but the word "queen" at least) . The Israelites had a tradition of the queen mother. King Solomon put a throne for his mother on his right side when she came. It probably has some connection with that. The book of Revelation (rev 12:1) also talks about the women who gave birth to a Son (Jesus) who she was crowned with 12 stars. This was often considered to be the Virgin Mary by many of the Church Fathers and often queens wear a crown so you could see how that might lead to such a title. I would assume she was crowned that way "in heaven" so that could easily lend itself to the use of "queen of heaven".

Well, for one thing it is a logical outcome to what Paul said.

1 Corinthians 9:25
And every one that striveth for the mastery, refraineth himself from all things: and they indeed that they may receive a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible one.

As for Mary - who better to be Queen than the mother of our Lord?
We know 'crowns' are in Heaven - so to speak... Mary was blessed - as all generations shall call her.
Psalms speaks of a Queen.

Hey 'saved' people out there.... why are you still continuing in sin?

1Cor 15:1 Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain.

This 'saved' person trusts the L-rd, and doesn't believe in vain.

However I struggle with sin just as much as the next person, but I am determined to live a godly life by the grace of G-d, and by the power of the Spirit that works in me, looking for sanctification and holiness, and wanting truth in my 'inward parts'.

I walk by the Spirit, and I put to death the flesh....I want life in all its abundance....my heart and my soul cry out for the Living G-d.

1John 1:5This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. 6If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; 7but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.
