  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Really - who knows but the woman herself what her intentions were. I don't like one pieces and so have bikinis, but I also wear a shirt over the top, and a pair of board shorts. As someone who wants to do her best to follow after God, I don't wish to cause any brother in Christ to stumble simply because I'm wearing something to make him think inappropriate things. It comes back to modesty. Sure - you're a woman, and you want to look attractive, but there are plenty of ways to be desirable and attractive without compromising yourself, or others.

I've been skimming this thread and have to say that I can appreciate people having personal convictions about swimwear. What I do not understand is imposing them on others. If I saw a woman at the beach in a bikini I would hardly call into question her spirtual beliefs or the strength of her beliefs. It's disappointing to see yet another topic that can so easily divide Christ's followers.

By no means would I sanction the clothing or lack thereof of anyone Christian or not. BUT women should no the stumbling block that they present with their dress just as men should be aware of their eyes. It's really a minor issue in comparison to focusing on spreading the word of Christ though and I agree it shouldn't be a point of division. :)

Really? Myself, and I'm willing to bet most guys, are pretty thoroughly convinced that women know exactly what they look like when they go out and what sort of reaction it will generate in guys. As a younger brother in a family full of women, I know women spend alot of time dwelling on that sort of stuff..

Sure, sure. I mean, yes, ALL women (almost) wear clothes that make us feel and look great. Of course, we can do all that in a modest manner. But there are women who just go too tight, or too short, or too low cut with lots of boobage showing, and honestly don't know that could be a problem. I think the only type of women who do this are the type of women that aren't very perceptive and aren't too aware of their surroundings.

Modesty is relative though madam, and that's the issue here. I can see a girl in a bikini and have no lustful thoughts (ie; the only things going through my mind are "oh, that's what they look like in a bikini" "well, God blessed them with a great body"), and then turn around and see a girl in baggy pants and a sweater that some how triggers hormones and lustful thoughts. It doesn't have be super revealing, or revealing in anyway to trigger thoughts of lust, or to cause a brother in Christ to stumble.

The more skin you give our minds to work with, the worse off we are. I'm sorry if one pieces are uncomfortable, but that check you're cashing now will pay off later when your husbands have no sexual desire for you because their relieving themselves to images of younger women on the beach in bikinis, intent of lust or not.

Speak for yourself. I do not find it more difficult in general to desire a woman fully clothed than one who is completely naked. It is in fact sexual intent that, to be frank, turns me on. Nor am I so totally without control that I would find my thoughts wandering to every patch of female skin I have ever seen when presented with the opportunity to have sex with a woman whom I love. Nor again do I suspect that I am very special in that regard. If you struggle as you have indicated, then by all means, avoid women in all states of undress. But don't project your shortcomings onto others.

1. If my ankle cause you to burn with lust, you have a problem with your soul (mind, will and emotions) that you need to take dominion over.

2. Did I hear someone say a women who wears a bikini doesn't respect herself? seriously? Surely, this must be the case. /end sarcasm

3. To the OP: It's not up to you to judge your "friend's" heart through her preference for skimpy bathing attire nor for her not being able to "keep her legs closed". It's true she may have an area of her life that needs deliverance, but it's not your call to determine whether or not she is a "woman of God". It is your job however, to pray for her and offer a good example to her through your lifestyle if she is in fact your friend.
