  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Some people are merciful to pedos. I'm not one of them.
I agree.
I don't want to assert that those who feel sorry for the treatment of pedophiles condone their actions, but seriously, you're worried about the PEDOPHILE being humiliated? Considering what they showed up to do there - one man had tape and rope in his trunk - I think they get off pretty easy with a 30 second grilling from Chris.

The guys Dateline catches as a result of this show are criminals, who need should be punished as criminals. Thanks to them, many potential child molesters are off the streets.

But have you seen what they do just before sending them off to jail?

I Just saw one episode, where a man about 31 years old with glasses stripped naked, while hearing a voice of someone he believed to be a 14 year old girl in another room. When he's totally naked, Chris Hansen comes out, and proceeds to strip every last shred of dignity this man has, by asking consending questions with no purpose other than to further humiliate him:

Hansen: "Were you planning to have sex with a 14 year old?"
Man: "Uh, no I wasn't really gonna go all the way."
Hansen: "Oh come on! You're naked!"

Well Chris, if it's soooo obvious what he's doing, why put him through all this? Why all the snarky coments?

After what seems to be about ten minutes of useless obvious questions, he lets him know he's on national T.V., and a camera crew comes out. Now he's naked (just a towel) in a room full of people. Chris Hansen further destroys all shred of his self-respect by asking him if he has "anything to say" to millions of people who will now know what he's doing. This serves no purpose other than a sadistic enjoyment of watching him squirm. Put on the spot, he of course apologizes.

And to top it all off, Chris Hansen tells the guy he's free to go, and "keep the towel" just to stomp on his humanity one last time. What the guy doesn't know, is that he's not actually "free to go", there are cops outside in camoflage ready to put him to the ground, cuff him, and take him to jail. They don't show it, but I just know Chris Hansen is laughing his head off like "We said he was "free", let's see the look on his face when he realizes we just said that to screw with him".

Aren't there laws against "cruel and unusual punishment" for a reason? Aren't these laws in place because we recognize that criminals are still human beings? (Yes; Chris Hansen isn't offically a law enforcement official, so I guess it's okay, huh?)

Do you think this is right to do? I for one don't. Yes, what these men do is illegal, and immoral; but that's only depending on which country you live in, or in the U.S., what state you live in.

It's wrong to treat men who think they're going to have consentual sex with a teenager, who depending on the country (or state) would be legal to have sex with.

I'm pretty sure I saw that episode last night as well. Was that the guy who wanted to watch the girl do things with the cat? I think his (Chris's) reaction mirrored what many people felt or would feel. I've often wondered if the whole show qualifies as entrapment. I don't think Dateline was right or wrong, I think its main objective was to be as outlandish as possible in order to increase ratings at the time it was aired. However much I'm glad those guys were taken off the street, if only for a short time, there needs to be more opportunities for rehabilitation.

Yes, that's the exact show I saw last night.

For the record...

I actually don't mind if Hansen grills them. I really don't. They really should feel bad for what they intended to do. But it crosses the line when their humiliation becomes entertainment, and Hansen's questioning is essentially to degrade the guy.

How can we be a nation that's against waterboarding, yet support this?

Yeah I've considered that too. There lives are pretty much ruined. How many people are going to choose someone they've seen on that show vs. someone with a clean record.

I know. It seems people have more sympathy for murderers than these guys. I don't get it. Being a murderer is actually made to seem "cool" at times, like with Sammy the Bull Gravada, a hit-man for the mob. Why is this guy less disgusting than a pedophile?

I support both water boarding and humiliating child rapists. In fact, I'd support water boarding pedophiles.

Because in Western Society crimes of violence are considered far less taboo then crimes of sexuality.

Oh yeah. The whole "violence is worse than sex" thing. Which is why violence is ok on TV and sex is not.

Nothing is hid from God ,who cares if criminals are humiliated. The Bible teaches me that we all should look back at our evils ways and be ashamed! When Adam and Eve sinned the hid their selfs but God called them out! Its time that we quit putting more efforts to protecting criminals and put more effort into stoping them. The Bible tells us to Love thy enemy , Pray for those that despitefuly use us. What better Love can we show than to stop a pedophile and teach him to be ashamed! And with that, teach them and all sinners a better way of life thru and by Jesus Christ!

Luke 12:3 Wherefore whatsoever ye have said in the darkness shall be heard in the light; and what ye have spoken in the ear in the inner chambers shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.

Pedophiles prey on children!

mattew 18:6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

I have children ...do you? I want my kids and every child in the world protected!
yes when you first hear of a 19 year old trying hook up with a `13 year old , the Devil
makes us think well when hes 29 the child will be 23 thats not too bad ...trouble is they are not 23 they are 10 11 12 13 etc. . But when they begin to read the transripts
of what they want to do to this child ... doesnt sound like anything a 10 year old or even a 16 year old is going to want to consent to!
You stated depends what country you are in. True, not every countrty protects its children they way we do, even our own country didnt have laws to protect them not that long ago. To be honest I dont care what the man made laws on this are! God's word teaches us whats right and wrong ( GA+3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.)
I wont let my 15 year old drive my car...why? To protect him from the dangers he doesn't see. I consider my wife and I to be good parents , my son thinks we are over protective. I have taught my kids about Jesus from birth and the dangers of this world.
As they grew older, we taught them stranger danger, trouble is the Devil teaches them too just as he did Adam and Eve in the garden.
The Devil tells our children these cool people they met online ( pedophiles) are ok , they are going to bring good things for them to try (sex, drugs, beer, wine, etc.). Just as Eve was fooled in the garden which was their home , He is trying fool our chidren in our homes.
Now to get back to the point at hand , shows like these educate parents that dont see the dangers of the internet, leaveing children home alone, and many other things as well. I want the best for my kids and every child in the world. So I say God bless the shows that show the world the sins of man against children! Theres more than just this one on pedophiles, there are shows on prostitution that expose pimps looking for young teens , sex slavery, and many others.

14 year olds are having sex these days, as they have been for eons. Hence having sex with one doesn't make one a pedo. Maybe a cradle robber and a law breaker but not a pedo.
Not in the technical definition, but what it does make one and rightfully so is a sex offender. There's nothing attractive about a 12 or 13 year old to anyone with a normally functioning sex drive.

Which is why the government will deal leniently if the two people are 14 and 15 years old, but hammer the perp who is 31.

I don't know about 12 or 13.

As for older than that, It depends on how developed they are. With all the hormones in the food and water many women are looking mature at a younger age. You can't blame a guy for trusting his eyes, or a woman for that matter.
