Some home cook well and others try to poison themselves daily. A wide variation exists.

So it is in homeschools. Some do an extremely good job and some don't do very well at all.

In any case, just because you eat out doesn't mean you can't also cook at home, nor does using public education mean you can't also homeschool.

Same here. Homeschooling is a foreign idea to many people, so we just try to keep in mind that they just don't know and correct them accordingly.

But there are some people who are just really obnoxious about it.

Being new to homeschooling, we will be homeschooling our little ones starting next year. We are already hearing the comments, though some are positive. I think with the advent of 19 Kids & Counting and Tim Tebow, more people are exposed to it than in the past and have a better understanding of it.

pretty much sums it up.

We have a very active homeschool group here that includes various clubs, sports, and even holds a prom for the high school kids. There's a lot of options for materials and if you shop around you can find some great deals.

It was not meant to be a comphrehensive thesis, simply to point out that schooling does indeed influence a person. I believe that is usually held up as why people homeschool.

Most homeschool situations I know about are healthy, but not all.

The above is not as far out as it sounds! They are already trying to tax soft drinks, eliminate burgers and fries, etc. Big Brother is already declaring he knows what is best for you in other areas than schooling!

Public school is far less about true education than it is social development. Children need to learn how to interact with peers outside of their home/church, someday they will be all alone in the real world.

I know young folks who have been Home Schooled or went to Christian Schools, and I know kids that went to public school. I think those "sheltered" in Home School or Christian School are better able to cope with "the real world" because they have been taught about the lies of Satan and know how to resist them.

The arguments against homeschooling are no longer important when the government starts forced indoctrination programs (politically, idealogical, sexual). If I have anything to say about it, my grandchildren will never attend indoctrinations of this type. There may come a time when Christian parents simply have to say NO and take their children out of public schools. One should not be so naive as to think that totally intolerable things will never come to your school system. So, parents should be paying close attention to what's happening in the public schools near them. Whatever you do, don't just mark this off as "not my problem". If you're the type of parent who will tolerate just about anything, I feel sorry for your kids.

I don't plan to homeschool my children, but I appreciate the humor in the OP. In all seriousness, I see plenty of kids in public schools who suffer because their parents use it as an alternative to teaching values and basic skills at home. By the same token, I have seen homeschooled kids who do suffer from lack of social interaction with peers. I have also seen parents in both situations who do a great job of making sure their kids have a thorough and well-rounded educational experience.
