  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Kinda surprised that Zeitgeist hasn't been mentioned at all, probably because of the initial commentary about religion in the beginning...

I enjoyed both Zeitgeist and Zeitgeist: Addendum.

I've seen Zeitgeist and both the Banking and 911 sections are decent. The "Christianity" section has been thoroughly debunked, however. That is why I didn't include it. Worth watching for the other sections, though, imo.

I don't know what it was called, but the documentary was about the hostage-taking and massacre of the Beslan school in Russia, 2004. It left me physically and mentally exhausted. My sister watched it with me and I was glad to have someone there.

Is that the one where the boy wished for Harry Potter to come rescue him? I bawled.

Dear Zachary is another tear jerker, actually it's a soul crusher sucker puncher, just when you think it can't get any more sad TRAGEDY

The Cutting Edge: The Child Sex Trade. Too often, docs that deal with sex trafficking deal primarily with women. Granted, women are more at risk generally speaking, but this documentary is both disgusting, heartbreaking, but also worth watching. It deals primarily with boys who are sex trafficked into Western European nations, as well as those pimped out in Romania. Absolutely heart-breaking.

Racism: A History.

"Waiting For Superman" just came out a couple of weeks back. It has to do with the endemic problems in public schools. However, since most of the film is how Michelle Rhee turned around the DC public schools, it's a little dated now seeing as she has been ousted from DC. I thought it funny how she said this would be her only administrative job in education; but she's rumored to be enroute to Newark to do the same thing.

The End Of The Line.

Oh and there was one about Romanian orphanages for disabled children. Should really look it up again, quite interesting.

Oh I saw that one too! (unless there is more than ONE docu about Romanian orphanages)

:sorry:

There were two that i've watched, but one in particular made me cry quite a bit. The Lost Children? Lost and Found? I know there was one in the 90's and then the BBC produced one recently (ish) which showed standards hadn't really improved?

Great idea for a thread!

I haven't seen this one mentioned yet, and it's so incredibly touching:

Little Dieter Needs to Fly

It's the life story of a man named Dieter Dengler, a German immigrant turned US airman shot down over Laos during the Vietnam War. He was held prisoner and tortured, yet somehow managed to escape. His story is heroic and tragic and inspiring and... yeah, you get the point :)

I actually think the entire documentary is available, in parts, on Youtube if you search for it. Even if you're not a war-intrigued kind of person (as I am not,) it's an amazing documentary.
