  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Now that I'm in my thirties, I've decided to start exercising regularly.5-6 days a week, cardio and strength training. It's been a month now and I was just wondering if there is anyone else who is doing the same?

Same here. Hitting my 30's has been pretty eye opening for me. I think I'm finally to the point where I like myself, I'm excited about what's in front of me more so than being anxious about it, and I'm feeling pretty darn awesome. ;) A lot of things hold us back as we "grow up" and most of it is internal. The internal has finally come full circle though and now I want the outside to look like the inside. The "hard work" has been done now, so to speak. Time to enjoy me and what I want and I don't want something stopping me that I have control over. Keep at it! Life really is just now getting COOL.

I started doing regular exercises when I hit 30. I have a collection of workout dvds. Right now I'm working out with Jillian Michaels. :)

Oh I do the dvds too! Billy blanks/tae bo, for me it wasn't about losing weight, but really I just wanted to be stronger and have more energy,I've been thin, but I've never been in shape, I have to tell you, I have more energy now than I did in my twenties!

wow, I totally get what you are saying, I've never been more comfortable with who I am, my relationship with Jesus has alot to do with that. My teens and twenties were a mess and the Lord had to do some cleansing in me, just a lot of crap-ola from my past, strongholds I guess you would say. Now that God is setting me free on the inside, He gives me confidence and boldness to do some things that I have never done before, being physically strong and healthy(exercising) is one of them.

Exercise is a good idea regardless of age, and tbh in my 30's and ahh heavier than I should be I am also looking to improve diet and exercise.

But you don't want it to be come your purpose in life, rather just integrate it into your life while attending to the rest.

Healthy living, why must you be so hard to do? Why can't I have the speed, agility and stamina from when I was a kid and had the time to run around at school during the day, and the time to play sports at nights and weekends.

Yes, exercise is good regardless of your age and to be honest, I have more energy, speed, agility and stamina NOW than I did when I was younger. I was kind of a chubby kid, lol. Of course we shouldn't make it our purpose in life to exercise, I don't think I was suggesting that, at least I hope not.

No, you weren't explicitly suggesting it, but 5-6 times a week could be a pretty heavy load if you're just starting out. On an unfit body there is a real risk of injuring yourself, and quite aside from the injury aspect it can leave you further behind in getting fit.
It all depends on what you are doing during those sessions and from how far back you are starting from.

I've only been heavy for the last decade and yeah, I miss what I had.

I have been running all of my life and have really hit a good stride in recent years.

30 is a good time to exercise and really get into a good groove. Provided you stretch and eat right, you are not as susceptible to long term injury. I love to run and find it a very meditative endeavor. Living in a rural area helps.

Nothing like hitting the pavement at 6:00am on Saturday for a few miles and taking in God's beautiful creation. (Even if the cow pasture across the road sometimes gets rank in the summer!)

I can't do gyms though. Gotta be outdoors.

That is a thread that seems to be a good one for staying motivated to work out... Nice tips here and information from y'all :)

I just started about a month ago exercising about 3-4 times for 1/2 an hour on my eliptical ... not too bad but it gets boring as I am not a tv person so watching tv is not exciting for me...any suggestions?

Crank up some tunes to get you going?

I've recently started a half hour on the stationary bike every day before breakfast and noticing results. I tried reading while riding the other day and it was not a very good workout. If I'm working out, I have to put 100% into it and not focused on anything else. So....heart-pumping music works!

For a few years I let myself get real bad with regards to physical exercise. I wasn't too overweight (typically eat very good)- but between my day job (sit alot) and my lifestyle at the time....I realised one day as I tried to run that my legs weren't working right! That was a big wake up call that I needed to at least start taking walks - so I did.

Late last year/early this year I started a simple program with some dumbells for upper body strength - Mon,Wed,Fri and do cardio/leg exercises Tues and Thursday. Definately enjoying the benefits.

Oh, and this guy is so cool:

I'd like to but I seriously lack discipline/motivation. It's ridiculous really!

Just remind yourself of all the benefits!

I'll have more stamina!
I'll feel healthier with more oxygen!
Muscles burn calories even if your doing nothing sitting on the couch!
I'll have more energy!
I'll feel better physically!
Sex without getting tired halfway through!! Triple yes!! ^_^
I'll have increased bone density!

^ Is all that worth ½-1 hour of your time a day? ;)
