Some Pharisees came and tested him by asking, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?"

3"What did Moses command you?" he replied.

4They said, "Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away."

5"It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law," Jesus replied. 6"But at the beginning of creation God 'made them male and female.'[a] 7'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, 8and the two will become one flesh.'[c] So they are no longer two, but one. 9Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."
10When they were in the house again, the disciples asked Jesus about this. 11He answered, "Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. 12And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery."

There is one sin that "sends you to hell", and even that is ill defined, just stay away from anything that looks like blasphemy and you are forgiven.

There is a fact that is overlooked though, divorce CAN be sin, no better, no worse than any other sin. Because it is premeditated, it gets really messed up today, that folks will FOCUS on forgiveness BEFORE the sin is done...."ah dont worry about divorce, God wants you happy, and He dies forgive sins" There is NOT ONE other sin we so rationalize the commission of, using the ultimate forgiveness to do so. In my opinion its twisted thinking.

Some people go cross eyed when they read that, and see me condemning folks who have divorced....funny that, Im one of em....its not about those who HAVE done it...its to clarify for those YET to do it. Just like all other sin...it should be clearly explained.

You can go to Hell for ANY sin. Why divorce should be different in this respect gets past me.

Jesus, in speaking to His disciples, made it very clear just how hard getting into the Kingdom truly is. Sin starts in the heart, and comes out from there. Since God is perfect He won't abide unholiness in His presence. That gives us a HUGE problem, since not one of us is without sin. So, Jesus had to come into the world and become our perfect sacrifice, doing what we can't do.

I could go on, but it's already been covered by better men than me.

When He said "It is finished" Jesus proclaimed that the perfect sacrifice for all sin was now completed. That's why the gospel is called 'good news'.

In no way does a divorce prohibit you from God's kingdom, nor remarriage either for that matter. Juts get on with your life and enjoying your wonderul Father.

Divorce itself is not the sin but remarriage is. In the Bible it is an act of adultery, unless you become married and have a sexless life it is adultery and that is a sin. A similar question is can living with your girlfriend? Of course living with a girlfriend is not the sin the sin is premarital sex.

Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. 9 I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery.”

Unless the divorce is for adultery

31 “It has been said, ‘Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.’a 32 But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, causes her to become an adulteress, and anyone who marries the divorced woman commits adultery

However if a believer is married to an unbeliever and the unbeliever leaves then the bible says

But if the unbeliever leaves, let him do so. A believing man or woman is not bound in such circumstances; God has called us to live in peace.

Avniel. I am well familiar with those verses. They have been badly and very unhelpfully misunderstood. Plus, even if you are right then Jesus made only a partial atonement. He did not in fact "take away the sins of the world" if remarriage was not included in your view.

There is one unpardonable sin and it is not divorce, or remarriage or adultery.

One must repent sin to be forgiven for that sin, in order to be pardoned one must asked to be pardoned for that sin. How can one ask a pardon for a sin they are still in?

If a married man leaves his wife for his mistress and asks God to forgive him but he's still with the woman he cheated on his wife for how has he repented?

I disagree I believe those verses to be rather literal in their meanings. I mean it is plan as day what Jesus said, do you disagree with it? No Jesus made full atonement but one must repent their sins, one must ask God for forgiveness for sin. And if you ask God for forgiveness for a sin you still currently are living in how then will you be forgiven for something you are still currently doing?

Firstly, a literal understanding requires understanding the full context of that verse. That changes things a bit.

Secondly, You were forgiven on the cross. Repentance is simply becoming aware of that fact and accepting it. Jesus has already died for all sins for all humanity for all time.

Heb 9:23-26
23 It was necessary, then, for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these sacrifices, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24 For Christ did not enter a man-made sanctuary that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God's presence. 25 Nor did he enter heaven to offer himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood that is not his own. 26 Then Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But now he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself. NIV

To elaborate on what JohnZ says....

Jesus sacrifice was for all sins for all time. We get into a liner view of history and that is our problem. God is NOT liner. The sacrifice was for all sins for all times (to those that accept this gift). And he didn't just wipe them under the carpet and pretend they weren't there. He caused them to cease to exist.

Now all we have to do to make all our sins cease to exist is to confess with our mouth, etc. (the plan of salvation is for another thread in another forum. If anybody wants to know pm me and I will share, but it is not the purpose of this thread).

The point is that when we obtain this forgiveness it is not just for sins committed up to the day we get the forgiveness. It is for all our sins for all time. If you are thinking about it as, then after that I did this, so I need to ask forgiveness for that now... Then you are thinking in human liner terms. God apparently doesn't work this way. (see day=1000 years, alpha/omega, and related texts) God doesn't look at your life from beginning to end, and set about logging what order you did things in. God looks at it in toto without reference to sequence of events.

Mind boggling I know. But that is the way it seems to be with God.

So all that to say if you are forgiven YOU ARE FORGIVEN. All the confessing, repenting, etc is part of your SANCTIFICATION, not part of your salvation.

I don't want to minimize the importance of trying to become a better disciple/more like Christ/ etc, but get over relating that to your salvation. It's not part of it. It's part of Sanctification. It's a very important part of your walk, but not a part of your salvation.

Please provide me with Scripture to support your opinions. By the way, I am only looking for answers from Christians.

I believe that the answer is that you put yourself in danger of going to hell. Most Christians state the fact that Jesus died for our sins and wiped away all our transgressions. And it is true that God will forgive all sin. But there is something that most Christians overlook today, and that is the condition that God places on us for forgiveness.

That condition is repentance, and it is overlooked quite often in modern Christian circles. God shows us how forgiveness is achieved in this first verse.

2 Chronicles 7:14

…[when my people] turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and heal their land.

There are more verses that affirm this, but Jesus himself has also affirmed that there must be repentance in order for there to be forgiveness.

Consider...
Luke 17:3-4,

“If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him, and if he sins against you seven times in the day, and turns to you seven times, saying, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive him”

That means that there has to be repentance or a turning away from the sinful action in order for God to forgive you. So in summary, it is very possible that you will go to hell. At the very least, you'll be judged.
