When God said, "Remember," He was clearly talking to Israelites and He was referring to His previous command to them that is recorded in Exodus 16. What was His rationale for making this command? So the Israelites would remember their exodus from Egypt.

. . . by supporting His disciples when they gleaned food on the sabbath . . . .

. . . by acknowledging that He worked on the sabbath . . .

. . . by declaring that He was Lord of the sabbath and that the sabbath was not Lord over Him . . . .

BFA

The seventh day was called holy before Exodus 16.

What Jesus did on the Sabbath was also allowed under the OT..

Declaring to be Lord means He had authority to put the Sabbath in its right perspective.

Remember, Jesus didn't come to do away with the Law.

I was just throwing out the Genesis thing to see what people thought, and it seems pointless to discuss it now. But (and again, I haven't read through all these pages so I hope I'm not being redundant) in Romans 7:12 which was written more than 25 years after the death of Christ it reads, "Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good." Also in Romans 2:13 it says, "For not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified." Again in Romans 7:22 he writes, "For I delight in the law of God according to the inward of man."

It seems clear on here that people believe once we have faith in Jesus, we have no need to keep the law. But Paul addresses this also in Romans. In 3:31 he says, "Do we then make void the law through faith? Certainly not! On the contrary, we establish the law." Paul tells us that faith does NOT abolish the law, it establishes it, or upholds it.

We also see in Acts 24 when he was defending himself before the Roman govbernor Felix because of the charges of dissension and sedition brought by the Jewish religious leaders. He replies to the accusations that are brought against him by saying, "I worship the God of my fathers, believe all things which are written in the Law and in the Prophets." That was said in verse 14, and I don't think that he is saying there that the law is still in effect, BUT in Acts 25:8 when he again is defending himself he says, "Neither against the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor against Caesar have I offended in anything at all."

This is sometime after Christ's death and resurrection in which Paul says he has done nothing against the law. I think it is interesting that 9 of the 10 are upheld. I know the argument, but Jesus says to love one another which is the last six, and we obviously have to love God. But if 9 of the commandments are clearly still to be upheld, WHY would ONE of them not be? Doesn't it make sense that God established these 10 for a reason? To show that we love Him (The first four) and to show our love for others (The last 6). Also in Revelation 12:17 it says the dragon went to war with those "who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ." Again in Revelation 14:12 it reads, "Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus."

I've had people argue that these are NOT the 10, but actually all the commandments that Jesus taught. First of all, Jesus kept the Sabbath and actually never told people not to observe it, He rather upheld it. Also, both of these verses talk about keeping the "commandments of God and the faith of Jesus". If this is not directed toward the 10, what are the commandments of God being spoken of here?

I would like answers/responses to all the scripture and points I make. I feel it's kind of weak to only focus on one part of my post and then leave out the scripture that I provided.

Excellent reply...

What discussion?
This is a topic that several have weighed in on, and your response doesn't encourage discussion over the sundry points in your post.

Sabbath COMMAND:

Exodus 31:15 (NKJV)
15 Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.

I don't really think you folks want to obey the Sabbath COMMANDS.

Praise God for His grace.

And of course we want to keep the Sabbath because we love God.

I can't wait to see who will follow that particular directive....

because of God's infinite mercy he now only burns us in hell for not keeping Sabbath, instead of having us stoned to death like before.
Nah, He doesn't burn anyone in Hell for not keeping the Sabbath COMMANDS. There are none in the NT.

Sabbath is repentance and rest from the works of the flesh.

Gen 6:6
6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. KJV

Only as the Lord gives us to be grieved in our heart for the good works of our flesh does he lead us into his rest/sabbath.

The good works of our flesh are "dead" works.

Heb 6:1
...not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works,...KJV

Heb 9:14
14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? KJV

Those consequences were given under a theocracy. We are no longer under a theocracy. But that doesn't mean we throw the baby out with the bathwater.

It is the rebellious nature that resents the authority and power of God when He deals justly with sin and sinners. We want only a warm and fuzzy sugar daddy in the sky who has no laws and no consequences built into those laws. We want only mercy, no justice. Thankfully, God has united mercy and justice in a perfect QED. It's just that some don't want to hear anything about the justice side at all. They respond with rebellion instead.

He burns people for not loving Him, and those who love Him keep His commandments (Sabbath!) :)

Kira, God will not burn people for not loving Him. There comes a time when sin will be brought to an end, and the earth will be purified by fire in order to create the New Earth. Whoever hates or is indifferent to God will have chosen to not take the lifeline extended by God and will have chosen to remain on earth when it is cleansed by fire. That scenario is far different than saying that God burns people for not loving Him.

Why do you testify against God like this?
