  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So 7th day adventist celebrate the sabbath on Saturday because Jesus was put on the cross the day before the Sabbath?

Not exactly, as I understand it SDA's celebrate Saturday because they say IT'S the Sabbath...
...However they claim foundation from their 2300 year prophetic schema.
...& that schema REQUIRES that Christ died in 31 A.D. @ Passover.
...Passover in 31 A.D. did not coincide w/ a Gregorian Fri, Sat, Sun.

Yes, on a Gregorian Calendar Saturday is the 7th day and Sunday is the 1st day....
...It's not logical to claim a prophetic origin based on a different sabbath then the one they observe now.
...All the while maintaining how important it is to observe "the right day".

I must be reading this wrong. I still don't understand it. Jesus did die on Passover and the day after Passover is a Shabbaton sort of a special Sabbath that does not have to necessarily fall on the 7th day of the week. But why did they say it was on 31 CE?

Well, William got it wrong. Christ was put on the cross in the middle of the week. Wednesday by our calendar, he was put on the cross before a high Sabbath, Friday was a preparation day, and Saturday being the weekly Sabbath. The Bible supports this, totally. Also remember that the days ran from sunset to sunset. Thus he resurrected on the seventh day.

The good thing about posting scriptures is God's word is final........
An issue comes up when a poster uses text out of context and dont want to revisit their post.
Another issue comes up when a response is unrelated to Questions or Answers on the discussion at hand.

Where is the banana in the tailpipe? We've taken time to give you honest answers, by putting OUR UNDERSTANDING OUT THERE.... When you put your text and understanding out there, is when we can reason together.

See post 499 as a great example!!!

That's precisely the problem. Quoting you, "By putting our understanding out there" and "when a poster uses text out of context"..

See, its your understanding, and your decision to decide whether one has used the post out of context. That is why, it normally is a debate, rather than a discussion.

I would rather listen to what you have to say about the subject and reply with what I might have to say. There simply is no need for anyone to say, your wrong!, your proof reading!, your taking it out of context!.

Let us remember well the words of Rev 12:9, "For Satan has deceived the whole world." So who is to say who is deceived? I do think it a great opportunity to look at the different views, go back and look it up, meditate on an idea, pray about it, then make up my own mind.

I dont know how to serve you..... If I think your comments are in line with text, you get an Amen, if not you get questions or rebuttals. This does not mean your wrong or right. It just gives us something to clarify through communication. We here to grow as christians, not to fight.
I have not commented on your wisdom, but you're the one who have issue with my response to someonelse. If you have issues with a post, repost it and make your arguments clear.

As far as Satan and deception..

Ummmm..who cast a spell on the Galatians? chpt 3.

The Judaizers of Corinth were called messengers of Satan, and evil workers.

The same in Phil 3, they were called evil workers.

So really, the lawpushers seem to have inherited that title in the bible.

The old cov was set aside. It was broken all the time.

Leviticus 26:15
if you spurn my statutes, and if your soul abhors my rules, so that you will not do all my commandments, but break my covenant,
When you break a deal, the person you broke the deal with will probably give you the same tongue lashing.

Leviticus 26:15
if you spurn my statutes, and if your soul abhors my rules, so that you will not do all my commandments, but break my covenant,

Leviticus 26 is some harsh reality.

I, the LORD, your God, who brought you out of the land of the Egyptians and freed you from their slavery, breaking the yoke they had laid upon you and letting you walk erect. "But if you do not heed me and do not keep all these commandments, if you reject my precepts and spurn my decrees, refusing to obey all my commandments and breaking my covenant, then I, in turn, will give you your deserts. I will punish you with terrible woes - with wasting and fever to dim the eyes and sap the life. You will sow your seed in vain, for your enemies will consume the crop. I will turn against you, till you are beaten down before your enemies and lorded over by your foes. You will take to flight though no one pursues you. "If even after this you do not obey me, I will increase the chastisement for your sins sevenfold, to break your haughty confidence. I will make the sky above you as hard as iron, and your soil as hard as bronze, so that your strength will be spent in vain; your land will bear no crops, and its trees no fruit. "If then you become defiant in your unwillingness to obey me, I will multiply my blows another sevenfold, as your sins deserve. I will unleash the wild beasts against you, to rob you of your children and wipe out your livestock, till your population dwindles away and your roads become deserted. "If, with all this, you still refuse to be chastened by me and continue to defy me, I, too, will defy you and will smite you for your sins seven times harder than before. I will make the sword, the avenger of my covenant, sweep over you. Though you then huddle together in your walled cities, I will send in pestilence among you, till you are forced to surrender to the enemy. And as I cut off your supply of bread, ten women will need but one oven for baking all the bread they dole out to you in rations - not enough food to still your hunger. "If, despite all this, you still persist in disobeying and defying me, I, also, will meet you with fiery defiance and will chastise you with sevenfold fiercer punishment for your sins, till you begin to eat the flesh of your own sons and daughters. I will demolish your high places, overthrow your incense stands, and cast your corpses on those of your idols. In my abhorrence of you, I will lay waste your cities and devastate your sanctuaries, refusing to accept your sweet-smelling offerings. So devastated will I leave the land that your very enemies who come to live there will stand aghast at the sight of it. You yourselves I will scatter among the nations at the point of my drawn sword, leaving your countryside desolate and your cities deserted. Then shall the land retrieve its lost sabbaths during all the time it lies waste, while you are in the land of your enemies; then shall the land have rest and make up for its sabbaths during all the time that it lies desolate, enjoying the rest that you would not let it have on the sabbaths when you lived there. "Those of you who survive in the lands of their enemies I will make so fainthearted that, if leaves rustle behind them, they will flee headlong, as if from the sword, though no one pursues them; stumbling over one another as if to escape a weapon, while no one is after them - so helpless will you be to take a stand against your foes! You will be lost among the Gentiles, swallowed up in your enemies' country. Those of you who survive in the lands of their enemies will waste away for their own and their fathers' guilt. "Thus they will have to confess that they and their fathers were guilty of having rebelled against me and of having defied me, so that I, too, had to defy them and bring them into their enemies' land. Then, when their uncircumcised hearts are humbled and they make amends for their guilt, I will remember my covenant with Jacob, my covenant with Isaac, and my covenant with Abraham; and of the land, too, I will be mindful

Wow!

But is the punishment any less for those that sin against the Holy Spirit, thus breaking God's Law?

Hell is the harshest punishment.

Jesus died on the 6th day of the week, the day prior to the Sabbath...
...Ellen White ( SDA prophet ) cemented this understanding.
...This was impossible in 31 A.D.

Google SDA and read over the prophecy that founded their denomination...
...Specifically the 2300 years.
...W/out the 2300 year prophecy SDA's have no origin.

SDA's claim Jesus died on a "Friday" then also claim that Jesus died in 31 A.D...
...Do you understand now?

Kill the messenger.. any chase down this rabbit trail about 31 AD is a detractor to move off the subject and onto the poster.

The person who created this thread is SDA & they claim Satan thought to change times and laws via the Catholic Church....
...They claim Saturday is the Sabbath and Sunday the Mark of the Beast.

It's directly on target and I notice intead of dealing with it you resort to this.

Just saying .. go after the message.. if you don't like it.. prove otherwise via scripture ... but to turn this thread into another congregational bashing kinda looses the focus of the subject itself. Let's work on seeing if it will hold up on its own merits without the messenger diss'ings. It really shows a lack of anything better to say. I have seen many verbal discussions loose value when one of the parties resorts to name calling. The minute you have to resort to picking on the messenger, even if it is the source for such theology, you are revealing your lack of a better explanation. Hence, my hint to stay focused on the subject matter and not the source. After all, is it not your objective to have them see differently regarding this subject matter... then the source will no longer have its influence.:)

This is exactly why I am confused I did Google SDA and their main site says this about the Sabbath

The beneficent Creator, after the six days of Creation, rested on the seventh day and instituted the Sabbath for all people as a memorial of Creation. The fourth commandment of God's unchangeable law requires the observance of this seventh-day Sabbath as the day of rest, worship, and ministry in harmony with the teaching and practice of Jesus, the Lord of the Sabbath. The Sabbath is a day of delightful communion with God and one another. It is a symbol of our redemption in Christ, a sign of our sanctification, a token of our allegiance, and a foretaste of our eternal future in God's kingdom. The Sabbath is God's perpetual sign of His eternal covenant between Him and His people. Joyful observance of this holy time from evening to evening, sunset to sunset, is a celebration of God's creative and redemptive acts. (Gen. 2:1-3; Ex. 20:8-11; Luke 4:16; Isa. 56:5, 6; 58:13, 14; Matt. 12:1-12; Ex. 31:13-17; Eze. 20:12, 20; Deut. 5:12-15; Heb. 4:1-11; Lev. 23:32; Mark 1:32.)

I did not see where it said that they celebrate the Sabbath because of when Jesus died in 31 C.E. So that is why I am asking the question. Could you post a source that the reason they celebrate the Sabbath on Saturday is because Jesus was suppose to have died that day?

I am not following this. So why would God make a covenant that they could not keep? Why would he make something that was broken all the time? and why did you quote of Lev 26:15?
